Madison Square Garden Sports explores splitting Knicks and Rangers into separate public companies

Madison Square Garden Sports Corp reported revenues of $432.2 million for its fiscal 2026 third quarter, a 2% increase from the prior year period, despite the New York Knicks and Rangers playing five fewer combined games at Madison Square Garden Arena. The company saw growth in average per-game revenues across all key categories including tickets, suites, sponsorship and food and beverage sales. League distribution revenues rose $27 million, primarily due to higher national media rights fees from the NBA's new agreements beginning this season. Operating income fell to $2 million from $32.4 million year-on-year, whilst adjusted operating income declined to $10.3 million from $36.9 million, primarily driven by higher team personnel compensation and increased league revenue sharing expenses. The company is exploring separating its Knicks and Rangers businesses into distinct public companies to create long-term shareholder value.
