We are a new neuroscience group studying the cellular basis of learning and memory in the mammalian brain. This is an ideal position for someone passionate about doing research within a highly collaborative team and looking to gain mentored hands-on laboratory experience in preparation for graduate or medical school.
This position has three main responsibilities: First, it is to support the PI in basic lab management tasks, i.e., ordering equipment (especially during the lab start-up period) and supplies. Second, it is to manage the mouse colony, i.e., mouse husbandry, cage changing, and basic health checks. Finally, it is to support other lab members in their ongoing experiments and, if there is time, to work on independent research projects under the PI's supervision.
This is an ideal transitional position for a recent college graduate in the life sciences who aims to pursue a career in Neuroscience, be it in academic or biotech research.
Key Responsibilities include:
Manage the lab's mouse colony 20%
Lab management (ordering equipment and supplies) 20%
Support ongoing research/supervision of undergraduate students 50%
Work on their own research projects 5%
Provide administrative support 5%
Qualifications:
AS or equivalent in Neuroscience, Biology, Engineering, or equivalent. Bachelor's degree strongly preferred
Excellent organizational skills
Strong communication skills (both oral and written)
Ideally previous laboratory experience
Ideally a 2-year commitment
A strong desire to learn how to do research
