Requirements
- Successful completion of a master's degree in nursing or Master of Science in Nursing in a recognized advanced practice registered nurse specialty for the Nurse Practitioner pathway, or a master's degree in Physician Assistant/Associate Studies from an accredited program for the Physician Assistant/Associate pathway.
- Family Nurse Practitioners must have documented experience in inpatient adult oncology, hematology, or cellular therapy/transplantation to be considered.
- Current registered nurse and advanced practice registered nurse licensure with the Oregon Board of Nursing, current national certification in the area of specialization, current Basic Life Support or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification, applicable position certification, and Drug Enforcement Administration certification are required for the Nurse Practitioner pathway.
- Current physician assistant licensure with the Oregon Medical Board, current National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants certification, current Basic Life Support or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification, and Drug Enforcement Administration certification are required for the Physician Assistant/Associate pathway.
- Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and patient management skills in an inpatient setting are required.
- The ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment is required.
- Effective, clear, concise, and professional communication with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams is required.
- The ability to collaborate across disciplines and contribute to coordinated, team-based care is required.

Responsibilities
- Deliver care within a defined scope of practice in inpatient adult medical oncology.
- Participate in daily rounds with the faculty physician and multidisciplinary team.
- Write daily notes and orders.
- Coordinate care with the multidisciplinary team and consulting services.
- Coordinate the inpatient workflow of admissions and discharges.
- Perform appropriate procedures, including bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, and chemotherapy administration.
- Support the clinical, education, and research mission of OHSU through routine clinical care involving students, trainees, and patients participating in research.
- Participate in unit and departmental meetings, monitor organizational communications, respond in a timely manner, and meet institutional and departmental deadlines.
- Participate in departmental scheduling, including weekday, weekend, and holiday coverage.
Desired Qualifications
- Two years of oncology, hematology, cellular therapy/transplantation, and/or hospital medicine experience is strongly preferred.
- Advanced clinical assessment and diagnostic reasoning in complex hematologic and oncologic malignancies and cellular therapy patients.
- Ability to recognize and manage oncologic and cellular therapy-related complications, including febrile neutropenia, sepsis, tumor lysis syndrome, graft-versus-host disease, and chimeric antigen receptor T-cell toxicities such as cytokine release syndrome and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome.
- Strong clinical judgment and timely escalation of care for acutely ill and immunocompromised patients.
- Ability to prioritize and manage high-acuity, high-volume patient populations in a fast-paced inpatient environment.
- Proficiency in chemotherapy and biotherapy management, including monitoring and toxicity management.
- Proficiency or ability to learn to perform necessary procedures, including bone marrow biopsies and aspirates, lumbar punctures, and chemotherapy administration.
- Effective communication with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams during complex care discussions and transitions of care.
- Ability to collaborate across specialties, including oncology, infectious disease, critical care, pharmacy, and case management, to coordinate comprehensive care.
- Proficiency in electronic health record documentation, order entry, and use of oncology-specific treatment plans and pathways.
- Ability to educate patients, families, and learners on complex disease processes, treatments, and supportive care needs.
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety standards related to high-risk therapies and immunocompromised populations.
- Adaptability in managing evolving therapies, protocols, and clinical workflows in cellular therapy and transplant care.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice, regulatory standards such as Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy and Commission on Cancer standards, and continuous professional development.
- Commitment to carrying out job responsibilities in an effective, ethical, and professional manner.
