Requirements
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists as a sonographer or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Cardiovascular Credentialing International within 6 months
  • Adult Echocardiography credential under ARDMS AE or CCI credential
  • Graduate from Specialty Training Program in a related field of study
  • Basic Life Support Certification
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for a variety of technical duties necessary to the acquisition of echocardiographic examinations and maintenance of the adult echocardiography laboratory operations
  • Cardiac sonographers independently perform or assist the licensed practitioner in the completion of various cardiac imaging procedures
  • Prepare, administer and document activities related to ultrasound enhancing agents in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, or lawful institutional policy
  • Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality
  • Utilizes appropriate imaging protocol and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety, optimizing patient care, and applying principles of ALARA
  • Preparing and/or administering medications through new or existing vascular access site as prescribed by a licensed practitioner
  • Evaluates images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality and verifies archival storage and/or transfer of data, post processing of data if applicable
  • Educating and monitoring students and other health care providers
  • Communicating abnormal and unexpected findings with the provider to prioritize the need for additional testing or urgency of care with the licensed provider
  • Collaborating with a licensed practitioner in the performance of sonographic interventional procedures
  • Ensuring equipment parameters for diagnostic and interventional procedures are of optimal technical and administrative quality as requested by a licensed practitioner
  • Performing diagnostic, interventional, sonographic procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner or during appropriate educational activities
