Requirements
  • Three to five years of banking experience, including two to three years of standby letter of credit operations experience.
  • Knowledge and experience processing standby letters of credit and billing or fee invoices.
  • Knowledge of the Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits, International Standby Practices, Uniform Rules for Demand Guarantees, and International Standard Banking Practice.
  • Ability to provide teamwork focused on quality and prompt customer service.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to work in an automated system environment.
  • A college degree.
  • Ability to support compliance with OFAC, BSA/AML, JFEL, anti-boycott regulations, and applicable internal policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor the daily operations and workflow of the Standby Letter of Credit Section, ensuring output satisfies process requirements and priorities.
  • Reconcile and account for incoming work and processed output in accordance with established procedures and controls.
  • Maintain and oversee overdue or delinquent transactions, output reports, pending items, records, and files.
  • Ensure accurate letter of credit liability and commission postings.
  • Support new business initiatives, including commodity financing deals and ACB customers.
  • Coordinate and ensure that fronting letters of credit and commodity financing letters of credit are executed properly and promptly.
  • Review letter of credit and amendment queues in the Trade 360 system, ensuring that letters of credit are issued and amendments are processed and released as requested.
  • Verify and release letters of credit, amendments, drawings, payments, letter of credit fees, and bills, and sign negotiable instruments within established authorization limits.
  • Ensure that default, principal, and interest draws comply with letter of credit terms and conditions, internal procedures, and compliance requirements.
  • Provide technical and system support and guidance to staff, account officers, middle office personnel, United States branches, and customers on standby letters of credit.
  • Respond to inquiries from customers, front and middle offices, internal auditors, and correspondent banks with accurate and timely information.
  • Identify and correct, document, and implement improvements for discrepancies or inefficiencies in customer support efforts.
  • Assist management in identifying risk areas and implementing or monitoring practices to reduce or prevent risks.
  • Update procedures when workflow processes, system enhancements, or internal controls change.
  • Conduct quality control meetings to enhance customer service.
  • Supervise workflow assignments and ensure work is processed in a timely manner.
  • Discuss and assess team members' performance and production and escalate issues to management.
  • Provide system training when required and ensure the team has the necessary knowledge and skills.
  • Report staff performance issues, productivity, and incidents to management.
  • Enforce the bank's compliance policies and procedures and ensure implementation of applicable compliance regulations in section operations.
  • Ensure staff receive training on regulatory and bank compliance issues.
  • Provide operational and technical support, including draft reviews and comments, for all United States branches.
  • Perform queue verifications in the Trade 360 system and take appropriate actions.
  • Act as the key system liaison for Trade 360 system issues, user acceptance testing, and interfaces with OVS and Hotscan systems.
  • Prepare customized back-office reports and conduct system-related investigations, including general-ledger breaks.
  • Monitor work-in-progress, suspense, and accounts-receivable accounts and report overdue or unusual entries and differences to management.
  • Coordinate with unit managers to resolve overdue or unusual entries and differences.
  • Respond to audit and comptroller inquiries and investigations.
  • Act as liaison for Sarbanes-Oxley certifications, procedures, and audits.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in standby letter of credit draft reviews and technical support.
  • Knowledge and experience with transaction processing in the Trade 360, GPP, BESS, and Hotscan systems.
  • Experience and background in commodity financing and project finance.
  • A certificate, courses, or specialized training or exposure in international trade, trade and commodity financing, or project finance.

September 3, 2026 Four Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group companies - Mitsubishi UFJ Asset Management, Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities, Mitsubishi UFJ Trust Bank, and Progmat - established the first domestically domiciled tokenized investment trust in Japan and began verification in a live production environment, reports BigGo Finance. The fund deploys ¥200 million (approximately $1.3 million) of proprietary capital in short-term Japanese government bonds with remaining maturities of three months or less, and will not be offered to external investors. Beneficiary registry management is conducted on a blockchain, while the certificate-based representation of units is maintained. The objective is to connect the fund with stablecoins and tokenized deposits, transforming investment trusts into "usable assets" that can serve as settlement instruments or collateral. MUFG EMEA appoints Bénédicte de Giafferri as Head of Digital Infrastructure Coverage. MUFG EMEA today announces the appointment of Bénédicte de Giafferri as Managing Director, Head of Digital Infrastructure Coverage for EMEA. In this newly created role, Bénédicte will further develop client relationships to deliver MUFG's pipeline of digital transactions, including data centres, in a product-agnostic role. As part of MUFG's EMEA coverage business, she will support clients with diversification of funding for this growing sector, which is evolving from traditional project financing to include corporate and securitisation structures. Bénédicte, with over 25 years' experience in banking and infrastructure finance, will build out the digital infrastructure strategy for EMEA and lead the EMEA team, working in close collaboration with colleagues in U.S. and APAC regions. She will be based in Paris and report locally to Genoveva Ramon-Borja, Head of Global Corporate and Investment Banking EU Platform and Corporate Coverage, and functionally to Holly Villiers, Deputy Head of Global Corporate and Investment Banking, EMEA. Bénédicte spent the past 16 years at Natixis, most recently leading the Real Assets worldwide origination teams for five years. MUFG taps BlackRock and Morgan Stanley as it eyes Japanese private credit. September 1 2026 Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) is exploring separate collaborations with BlackRock and Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) to develop an open platform for institutional investment in Japanese private credit. MUFG has entered into discussions with both firms on developing Japan's private credit segment, as the country's nascent market starts to attract global investors and managers look to expand their presence in the region. The potential collaborations aim to connect domestic and global capital with Japanese companies, MUFG said. The discussions will cover the evaluation, sourcing and investment in private credit opportunities, it added. MUFG brings a large Japanese corporate client network and local market access to the partnerships, while BlackRock contributes global private credit expertise through its HPS platform. MSIM, also brings its experience in the space, having provided debt solutions to businesses globally for more than 15 years. Japan's private credit market remains at a relatively early stage of development compared with those in Europe and the US. However, private credit firms, encouraged by a combination of macroeconomic factors and changing investor attitudes towards alternative credit, have recently been expanding their presence in Japan. For example, Fiera Capital opened a Tokyo office in October 2025 and made a number of hires, including Chinatsu Aoyama as director, private markets specialist, earlier this year.
