Requirements
  • A Master's Degree in Speech and Language Pathology or Communicative Disorders is required.
  • A current New York license is required.
  • Experience with screening, evaluation, educational program and transition planning, and therapeutic intervention for students with disabilities is required.
  • The therapist must be able to keep students safe, implement CPI procedures when necessary, remove themselves from potentially harmful situations, and lift or physically support children.
  • The therapist must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, move throughout the workday, lift at least 50–65 pounds, physically intervene when required, and work in a dynamic, high-stimulation environment.
  • The therapist must be able to multitask, shift priorities, exercise sound judgment in high-pressure safety-sensitive situations, work effectively as part of a team, and perform duties under stress during behavioral escalations.
Responsibilities
  • Provide speech therapy support to children ages 5–21.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and services at departmental and system levels.
  • Independently review outcomes and modify intervention programs.
  • Promote optimal function and engagement in meaningful activities.
  • Support families and collaborate with other disciplines to address goals and objectives in each student's IFSP or IEP.
  • Provide speech and language therapy and evaluations for language, auditory processing disorder, articulation, and voice fluency.
  • Work with children who have autism.
  • Utilize behavior management techniques.
  • Write evaluations and progress reports.
  • Consult and collaborate with parents, schoolteachers, and colleagues.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation regarding student services and subsequent needs in compliance with state and local requirements.
Desired Qualifications
  • TSSLD certification is preferred.
  • PROMPT experience is preferred.
