The opportunity:
It’s an exciting time to join Markel as our business grows. We have just moved into brand-new innovative offices in Leeds city centre right next to the train station, and we currently have a new opportunity for an Underwriter to join our highly respected team in Leeds (3 days in the office / 2 days working from home). This exciting opportunity is based within the renewals department and you will work as part of the renewal connect team providing an excellent underwriting service for underwriters and brokers in the UK.

What you’ll be doing:
Provide and maintain a good level of underwriting, demonstrating a thorough knowledge of company guidelines and authority levels in order to achieve defined objectives
Underwriting risks in accordance within own personal level of underwriting authority
Provide excellent service to our brokers, prioritising renewals and mid-term adjustments and referrals whether emanating from the broker e-trading platform, Acturis or by email/phone to ensure deadlines are met
Ensure incoming calls to the team are answered promptly and professionally
Attend underwriting meetings as required throughout the year to provide insight into developments, trends and feedback on market conditions
Manage renewal cases working as appropriate with the broker to secure renewal and upsell/ cross-sell additional covers
Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with the Technical teams in Leeds and the wider business
Assisting the team and wider business with ad hoc projects
Our must-haves:
Proven relevant insurance experience and demonstrable technical skills
Background and experience in our classes of business is desirable, but not necessary
Excellent written, spoken communication and numerical skills
A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Demonstrable IT skills including MS Office
Be studying for/or be willing to study for CII qualifications (fully funded by Markel)
Knowledge of Acturis is preferred, but is not a requirement
