- The operator must be articulate, courteous, and accurate when answering phones.
- The operator must attend continuing education programs on-site and off-site.
- Act as the primary public contact while performing computerized telephone operator duties.
- Cover the telephone console and Physician's Answering Service during night shifts.
- Route calls to the proper departments and handle hospital-related phone inquiries, complaints, and referrals.
- Report telephone equipment trouble to the Help Desk.
- Enter shift changes for Respiratory, Physician Assistant, Nursing Supervision, and related departments.
- Contact interns and residents for outside calls, units, and codes.
- Properly announce codes and notify the fire department, police, and appropriate hospital personnel during disasters, drills, and bomb threats.
- Assist when the receptionist is unavailable.
- Assist the TAS operator during busy periods when teamwork is necessary.
- Handle TAS and telephone operator tasks during night shifts.
- Aid in the orientation and training of new employees.
