Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • For the graduate pathway, obtain the Certified Dietitian/Nutritionist or Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist credential within six months.
  • For the regular and senior pathways, hold the Certified Dietitian/Nutritionist credential.
  • A Pennsylvania Registered Dietitian professional license is required.
  • Applicants must be registered or eligible to sit for registration through the Commission on Dietetic Registration or qualify under a reciprocity agreement with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • The senior pathway requires a minimum of four years of related experience, which may combine two years of related work experience with an advanced or specialty certification.
Responsibilities
  • Provide safe, ethical, competent, evidence-based nutritional therapy in accordance with Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics standards and scope of practice.
  • Manage individuals' nutrition care in collaboration with the healthcare team and other nutrition professionals.
  • Assess individual nutrition needs using interviews, food and nutrition histories, medical records, and discussions with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Develop nutrition plans, including recommendations for diet composition, meal patterns, supplements, and parenteral and enteral feeding volume, rate, and composition.
  • Confer with the healthcare team to develop patient-care goals.
  • Document care in accordance with established standards.
  • Evaluate individuals' nutritional status and recommend optimal care.
  • Counsel individuals, families, and care providers on normal nutrition and therapeutic diets while considering educational, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Plan and conduct group classes on various nutrition topics.
  • Write nutrition-related orders for hospitalized patients according to Clinical Nutrition policy.
  • Consult, educate, and advocate for individuals, groups, and special populations regarding food, culinary, nutrition, health issues, food security, nutrition programs, wellness, and resources.
  • Plan continuing nutrition care for individuals using ancillary resources as needed.
  • Self-evaluate results and monitor workload productivity trends and changes.
  • Compile statistics and complete Clinical Productivity worksheets in a timely manner.
  • Participate in departmental initiatives supporting strategic goals.
  • Participate on organizational committees and represent the Clinical Nutrition department in committee decisions.
  • Precept students as indicated.
  • Mentor and train new staff members, colleagues, and other care-team members as applicable.
