Requirements
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in marine service, marine engineering, marine maintenance, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in marine electrical and electronic systems; marine diesel engines and gasoline systems; marine air conditioning and auxiliary systems; and structural or fiberglass repair.
  • Strong understanding of marine industry standards, best practices, tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Established connections within the regional marine industry.
  • Experience working with or mentoring technicians, apprentices, or students.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and occasionally carry items in excess of 25 pounds.
  • Ability to lift heavy boxes and materials, move equipment from room to room, work for extended periods at a computer station, and operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to follow proper safety standards while employed by the college.
Responsibilities
  • Provide expert guidance in designing and updating accelerated Marine Technology courses covering marine electrical and electronic systems, marine auxiliary and heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems, marine transmissions, and marine rigging and lifting.
  • Ensure curriculum aligns with current industry standards, American Boat and Yacht Council guidelines, recognized certifications, and employer expectations.
  • Assist in developing course learning outcomes, laboratory activities, assessment methods, and equipment lists.
  • Maintain regular engagement with regional marine industry stakeholders, including marine centers, boatyards, repair facilities, engine manufacturers, and marine contractors, to validate training needs.
  • Facilitate partnerships for job placement pipelines, equipment donations, guest instruction, and site visits.
  • Advise on emerging technologies, sector trends, and priority employer competencies.
  • Participate in advisory board meetings and provide expert insight.
  • Recommend facility layouts, laboratory workflows, and equipment to support high-quality hands-on training.
  • Assist in designing and building specialized training systems.
  • Support vendor selection, equipment acquisition, and tool standardization.
  • Ensure all training infrastructure complies with marine industry safety standards and best practices.
  • Assist in recruiting and screening qualified adjunct faculty and instructors.
  • Provide mentoring and technical guidance to instructional staff.
  • Support evaluation of faculty teaching materials and hands-on laboratory practices.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
