Requirements
  • You must be a current ODOC Correctional Sergeant employee to be considered for a lateral transfer request.
  • Lateral transfer requests are posted by institution.
  • If you are interested in applying to multiple locations, please apply to each additional job announcement.
  • Employees requesting a lateral transfer by voluntary demotion from a higher security series classification can do so from this announcement.
  • You must be currently DPSST certified to request a lateral.
  • Your request will be maintained in Workday and will be considered active: until the employee successfully transfers, until the employee withdraws the application, until the employee terminates employment from ODOC, employee did not respond to an interview request, or until two years from apply date per ODOC policy.

  • Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the job posting close date.
  • The successful candidate for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, there may be some felony convictions that could disqualify you for this position. However, having a felony record does not exclusively restrict you from being considered as an applicant. CJIS clearance is done at the conditional job offer.
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED certificate; and Be 21 years of age or older; and United States Citizen
Responsibilities
  • Overseeing custody, control, supervision, and daily care of adults in custody while upholding the mission of the Department.
  • Serve as a lead worker, ensuring facility operations run smoothly, safely, and efficiently.
  • Supervise AICs during movement assignments.
  • Monitor high-security areas.
  • Conduct security operations such as transports, searches, and emergency response.
  • Staff development, assisting in training and potentially mentoring subordinate staff as a Field Training Officer (FTO).
  • Lead by example, modeling professionalism, accountability, and behaviors that support rehabilitation efforts.
