Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required, or an associate degree in Mechanical Engineering may substitute for the required experience.
  • At least five years of mechanical maintenance experience or an equivalent associate degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Hazardous Materials regulations is required; certification is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical equipment, including the ability to read schematics, is required.
  • Knowledge of first aid is required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, understand and execute oral and written instructions, and interpret plans and sketches is required.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical technical aptitude is required to recommend necessary improvements to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, equipment manuals, and parts catalogs is required.
  • Basic knowledge of industrial power systems, electricity, and oil and gas machinery is required.
  • Ability to operate cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts is required.
  • Ability to use equipment designed to inspect, test, monitor, and measure safe environmental levels is required.
  • Ability to locate, diagnose, and repair major mechanical malfunctions in equipment and identify issues or potential issues is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Ability to respond to emergency and non-emergency situations, work long hours and weekends, travel as needed, and work in a manufacturing plant environment is required.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, industrial machines, digital cameras, phones, scanners, and controls safely is required.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements, including standing, walking, bending, climbing, crawling, working around hazards and heavy equipment, lifting up to 50 pounds, wearing protective equipment, and maintaining manual dexterity, vision, and concentration in noisy environments, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform inspections and extensive preventive maintenance, including cleaning and lubricating equipment parts, changing belts, replacing filters, checking fluid levels, inspecting drives and motors, and completing checklist actions.
  • Perform detailed and in-depth diagnostic tests, routine and major repairs, troubleshooting, and adjustment of equipment and facilities.
  • Inspect, adjust, and replace valves, pistons, main bearing assemblies, and related components.
  • Perform mechanical overhaul and repair work on motors, control systems, pneumatic systems, resistance welding systems, and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform minor welding and modify equipment or fabricate parts as needed.
  • Visually inspect hydraulic lines and components for leaks, damage, and wear; read pressure gauges and detect overheated oil.
  • Disassemble defective hydraulic components, replace or repair them, and reassemble the components.
  • Observe display screens or computer readouts to determine system malfunctions and operate standard testing equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests and complete assigned daily work orders.
  • Assist with installation of new equipment, renovation, and remodeling of buildings or workstations.
  • Identify projects requiring a higher skill level and inform supervisors.
  • Keep detailed records of work performed, track company tools, obtain replacement parts from inventory, and advise the Parts Room Clerk when parts must be ordered.
  • Leave work areas clean after maintenance or repair and conserve maintenance resources by using equipment, tools, and supplies appropriately.
  • Attend educational workshops, review technical publications, and establish professional networks to grow technical knowledge.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Alert the Maintenance Supervisor to unusual occurrences or damage.
  • Maintain professional and courteous interactions with vendors, contractors, customers, and employees.
  • Mentor lower-level maintenance employees and equipment operators regarding maintenance issues.
  • Follow all safety standards when working on equipment.
  • Provide direction to lower-level maintenance workers or equipment operators when assisting with work, although supervision is not a normal responsibility of the position.
  • Perform special projects and other assigned responsibilities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Technical certifications in welding, pipefitting, general motor repair, hydraulics, and pneumatics are preferred.
  • Certification in Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Hazardous Materials regulations is preferred.
