Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • A minimum of six units in Child Development or Early Childhood Development is required.
  • Six months of experience in a preschool classroom setting is required.
  • Valid CPR, First Aid, and Food Handlers certifications must be obtained within the first two months of employment and maintained throughout employment.
  • The employee must complete a physical examination, TB clearance, drug screen, and required influenza, pertussis, and measles immunization records before the first day of employment.
  • The employee must obtain and maintain a current criminal background-check clearance, signed criminal record statement, and signed Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form before the first day of employment.
  • The employee must have and maintain a valid California driver's license, daily use of a personal insured vehicle, and a motor vehicle driving record acceptable to MAAC's insurance carrier.
  • The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform the physical activities required for classroom, transportation, cleaning, and kitchen duties.
Responsibilities
  • Assist classroom staff with classroom activities, field trips, outdoor activities, and lesson plans.
  • Assist in developing materials and providing activities related to the cultural background of the children and families served.
  • Help supervise mealtimes and eat with children to encourage good nutrition and proper social skills.
  • Help keep the classroom and its contents clean and orderly.
  • Assist the teacher with any aspect of the program as needed.
  • Empty trash or garbage containers when needed before custodian or janitor services.
  • Sanitize surfaces and pick up and store materials in the classroom or kitchen to maintain a safe and organized environment.
  • Serve as custodian in the absence of the regular custodian on a periodic basis.
  • Keep the interior and, when weather permits, the exterior of the vehicle clean.
  • Maintain accurate records for program requirements.
  • Report vehicle damage or malfunction immediately to the Bus Driver.
  • Assist with safety supplies and seat belts as requested.
  • Ensure the bus is empty at the end of each run and that all children are accounted for.
  • Interact with children during bus routes for socialization and educational experiences.
  • Ensure children remain seated and wear seat belts at all times.
  • Assist parents and families with signing children onto and off the bus.
  • Communicate with parents and families as needed.
  • Complete routine kitchen, dining-room, and food-service chores as assigned.
  • Prepare food and serving items before or after use.
  • Participate in kitchen cleanup, inventory, and other kitchen tasks.
  • Place food orders.
  • Prepare Menu Production Records in compliance with Child and Adult Care Food Program requirements.
  • Maintain food and supply inventory.
  • Attend required workshops, meetings, staff meetings, and parent meetings.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bilingual English and Spanish speaking, reading, and writing ability is preferred.
