What Sea Rocket was missing.

What Sea Rocket was missing. In the early days under new ownership, Sea Rocket had no structured systems for operations or marketing. Business was good anyway. "We crushed it that summer, but because back then we didn't have very good systems or marketing, people just showed up!" That worked when growth was accidental. It stopped working once Sea Rocket started expanding into new states in 2021 and 2022. COVID had already pushed the industry toward digital solutions, and Sea Rocket started with SmartWaiver. "We started with SmartWaiver, which didn't collect any data. Marketing wasn't the original concentration, but we were growing really quickly." - William Realizing the importance of data collection and efficient operations, Sea Rocket started looking for real watersports waiver software, something built for volume and data, not just a digital signature form. What happened when they switched to Wherewolf. William didn't know the industry when he started. He looked at what the best operators were actually using. "When I started all this, I didn't know a whole lot about water sports. So I went to see what are the best operators using." Sea Rocket adopted Wherewolf, integrated directly with FareHarbor, their booking system. The first rollout focused on day-of check-in, and it had to hold up under real volume. "We do up to 126 people every hour. In the beginning when we were figuring things out, getting the waiver simple so they can actually do it in person was important." From there, William customized Wherewolf location by location to fit how each site actually worked. "80% of our people fill out waivers ahead of time, making it much easier." - William With four out of five guests already checked in before they arrive, staff only need to walk the remaining twenty percent through the waiver on-site. That's less time spent on paperwork at the counter, and more time getting guests out on the water, which is the whole point. Turning guest data into shoulder-season revenue. Every waiver also captured something SmartWaiver never did: real guest data. How people heard about Sea Rocket. Which social platforms they used. What they booked, and when. "We're now getting much more detailed data, like exactly how people heard about us, which social media platforms they used, and other specifics like that." For a seasonal business, that data solved a real problem: filling the slow months. Sea Rocket used it to run targeted email and social campaigns aimed at the shoulder season, the weeks before and after peak summer when bookings usually dry up. "The biggest advantage of Wherewolf has been our ability to market and generate revenue in our shoulder months." Running four states on one system. Sea Rocket's locations don't run the same way. Florida operates year-round with full-time crews. Maryland is seasonal, with a much smaller team to work with. "In Florida, we can have full-time crews since we operate year-round. Whereas up in Maryland, we're limited by how many full-time people we can have." Wherewolf's waiver software gave every location the same standardized process, whether the crew was five people or fifty. That consistency let Sea Rocket scale without rebuilding their systems every time they opened somewhere new. Sea Rocket outgrew a clipboard. Wherewolf helped them scale to four states. Sea Rocket's expansion from one Maryland beach stand to four states wasn't just about better boats or busier weekends. It came down to systems that could scale as fast as the business did. "It's just easy. I never have any issues with it, day-to-day or week-to-week. That's exactly what we like." - William

Fareharbor Founder To Lead Rezdy-Checkfront-Regiondo

The Rezdy-Checkfront-Regiondo booking system rollup has new leadership.Lawrence Hester, co-founder and former CEO of FareHarbor, will be the new CEO of the combined companies, which now operate under parent company Expedition Software Holding. Hester is a limited partner at Vertica Capital, the investment firm that funded the merger. He succeeds another former FareHarbor executive, Mark Loh, who has led the group of companies since a management shakeup early in 2024. Canada-based Checkfront and Australia-based Rezdy merged in July 2023, followed shortly after by the addition of Europe-based Regiondo. The deal gave the combined reservation technology (or res-tech) company expanded reach in three different major global regions (North America, Oceania and Europe, respectively)

Booking Holdings Defies Travel Slump With 7% Surge In Gross Bookings

Travel can a tricky business to be in when consumer confidence is so notably down.  As PYMNTS CEO Karen Webster noted in a recent column, this isn’t a projection based on complex economic models or worst-case scenarios. It’s the simple math derived from actual consumer behavior already underway nationwide.
