Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must be available to work night shifts from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Greet patients and visitors and provide requested information and direction.
  • Answer and place telephone calls and pages.
  • Respond to patient calls through the intercom and communicate needs to the appropriate personnel for intervention.
  • Communicate dietary changes to Food and Nutritional Services.
  • Immediately notify the Patient Registration Unit of patient transfers, discharges, or expirations.
  • Maintain unit information in the Order Entry System.
  • Process referrals as indicated on Health Assessment Records.
  • Maintain accurate daily census sheets.
  • Print patient labels.
  • Order supplies through the Lawson system.
  • Maintain a well-organized and well-stocked desk and Nurses' Station.
  • Open unit mail and process it as directed by supervisors.
  • Prepare and maintain medical records for admissions, transfers, discharges, and special procedures.
  • Immediately notify Environmental Services of newly vacated beds.
  • Operate and maintain copy and facsimile machines and report broken unit equipment to the appropriate resources.

  • Understanding of medical terminology is preferred.
