  • A Medical Degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from an accredited school.
  • A valid North Carolina license to practice medicine.
  • A federal Drug Enforcement Administration registration and National Provider Identifier.
  • Board eligibility or board certification as a physician.
  • Completed residency training.
Responsibilities
  • Provide primary medical care to all patients in accordance with the physician’s medical specialty.
  • Develop a plan of care for each patient, including a complete medical history, physician examination, diagnosis, appropriate treatment or referral, and hospitalization where necessary.
  • Emphasize preventive health care measures.
  • Use laboratory and radiological testing and other available resources appropriately and cost-effectively for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Confer with consulting physicians, nurses, patients, and patients’ families concerning treatment and care.
  • Refer cases requiring specialist services while maintaining responsibility for continuity of care.
  • Participate in developing and implementing a regularly updated quality assurance plan for the consortium.
  • Participate in health promotion and disease prevention activities required by the United States Public Health Service.
  • Attend medical staff meetings and participate in the health center’s quality assurance program.
  • Perform other necessary duties required by the health center to meet its primary health care goals.
  • Directly supervise mid-level providers, students, and residents as appropriate.
  • Supervise the medical team at a clinic site when serving as the Physician in Charge.
  • Evaluate personnel for recommendations regarding retention, pay, or promotion.
  • Perform outpatient procedures.
  • Manage clinic patient flow and establish time-management principles.
  • Assess equipment needs for a rural clinic.
  • Analyze and critique clinical judgment.
  • Articulate instructions to low-income people.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bilingual Spanish ability is highly desirable.
