Requirements
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and Google Apps.

  • For NC Pre-K programs, a high school diploma or GED and an Associate’s degree in birth-through-kindergarten, child development, early childhood education, or an early-childhood-related field, or a Child Development Associate credential; assistants working toward the Associate’s degree must complete at least six documented semester hours per year.
  • For non-NC Pre-K programs, a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • For Title I schools, compliance with the employment requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act, Public Law 114-95.
  • Maintenance of Crisis Prevention and Intervention certification, including completion of required renewals and timelines; training is provided if needed.
  • Ability to sit and stand throughout the day and perform medium physical work, including lifting, positioning, or transferring students and exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 25 pounds frequently, or 10 pounds constantly.
Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers with instructional activities and duties implementing the total school program while supporting an encouraging, caring, safe, and healthy student environment.
  • Help teachers plan and organize instructional activities, evaluate instruction, develop classroom licensure procedures, and prepare lesson materials.
  • Work with individual students or groups of students in different pre-kindergarten classrooms or school areas as needed.
  • Participate in district staff development and continued professional growth related to the assignment.
  • Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and other required documents while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Coordinate and assist students with special healthcare needs, including personal hygiene, restroom functions, diapering, mobility assistance, lifting, positioning, transferring, behavioral assistance, and Crisis Prevention and Intervention skills.
  • Support teachers in coordinating instructional programs for special education students, including using students’ Individualized Education Programs.
  • Assist teachers with strategies for implementing students’ behavioral intervention plans.
  • Assist teachers with low- and high-tech assistive technology and augmentative communication devices to address class-wide and individual student needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • For Pre-K Special Education and Blended programs, experience working with or assisting individuals with special needs, including physical, emotional, behavioral, or learning disabilities or impairments requiring specialized services or accommodations.
