In Query Products, we focus on building best-in-class query experiences. Our mission is to help folks get to the right data quickly and confidently whether it’s SQL, NoSQL, GraphQL, gRPC, REST, etc. We seek to eliminate toil and uncertainty and instead put developers on a happy, productive path to getting the job done. 

The ethos of Retool is fast, assisted development. Applied to Query Products, we think query authorship and editing should feel like you’re working with a tool that knows or can anticipate your intent -- a copilot to help you get to what you need, quickly. Or, when in discovery mode, Query Products acts as a guide -- helping you rapidly reason about a schema, API endpoint, or other source of data.

Query Products also thinks about queries/data as a building block in the software composition toolkit. Discovery and reuse is a core part of the query authorship experience.

For example, today we’re working on:

• Best in class experiences across Retool’s myriad supported resources. Whether your company is all-in on GraphQL or your data is spread across REST and SQL, interacting with your data in Retool should be a joyful experience
• Leveraging the layers of abstraction Retool provides to deliver a delightful, AI-assisted query editing experience
• Radically increasing the amount of developers that love and proactively reach for Retool by seamlessly connecting together what they know - their data - with what they don’t know - the entire Retool product suite

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:

• Communicate and collaborate effectively with product management and product designers
• Manage a fullstack team of engineers; support the team by identifying growth opportunities, providing continuous feedback and performance management as appropriate
• Define your team strategy and ensure execution to maximize business impact for the RetoolDB team 
• Meet with customers to better understand product sentiment 
• Introduce scalable, repeatable processes that help engineering and product teams deliver a successful product
• Partner with recruiting on building out a diverse team of engineers

THE SKILLSET YOU’LL BRING: 

• 5+ years of experience successfully leading and managing teams
• Champion for engineering through macro process changes 
• Deep technical understanding; we don’t expect you to code, but you should be able to navigate our codebase and engage deeply on design and architecture
• A history of orienting teams and setting strategy toward engineering goals, with a bias toward impact
• Experience successfully recruiting, building, and scaling teams
• Operating as a business-owner – caring deeply about our customers, product, and team
• Thoughtfulness around engineering culture, process, and identity
• The ability to navigate ambiguity, manage stakeholders, communicate in a structured manner, and drive maximal accountability and excellence
• A collaborative skillset to partner effectively with product, design, and go-to-market teams
