Requirements
  • At least two years of recent experience in the news industry related to video content.
  • Excellent journalistic skills and knowledge and understanding of CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • Demonstrated ability as a visual storyteller.
  • Experience with content management systems such as 9CMS, Media Central, and iNews, including the ability to edit and publish within those platforms.
  • Experience using production programming tools such as Avid and iNews to search line-ups and build outlooks.
  • Knowledge of video storytelling, including writing banners and editing.
  • Ability to take direction and work to deadlines, often with multiple demands.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, organize, and pay attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and understanding of national and international news.
  • Ability to complete a mandatory criminal record check if advancing in the recruitment process.
Responsibilities
  • Identify and make available visual storytelling opportunities for distribution across CBC News and external media clients in consultation with a producer.
  • Track and respond to requests and deliver video content to syndication partners such as the European Broadcasting Union, NBC, CNN, and others via the internal management system.
  • Cut, transcode, and distribute video from material shot by CBC colleagues or from CBC News Network, ensuring adherence to quality standards including required metadata.
  • Perform audience-facing publishing work, including writing text, titles, thumbnail descriptions, and scripts for on-camera introductions, with writing vetted by a producer.
  • Assist in maintaining outlooks and updating a menu of available video for clients to choose from.
  • Ensure that CBC journalistic standards are met and that stories are fair, balanced, accurate, thoughtful, immediate, and resonant with the audiences served.
