  • An Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program is required.
  • One year of hospital Registered Nurse experience is required.
  • Current Kentucky Registered Nurse licensure or a compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky is required.
  • Basic Life Support accredited by the American Heart Association is required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support accredited by the American Heart Association is required for emergency department roles.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support accredited by the American Heart Association is required for emergency department, intensive care unit, and procedural department roles.
  • New-hire associate-degree Registered Nurses at UofL Hospital must start an approved Bachelor of Science in Nursing program within one year of hire and complete it within three years of hire.
  • Additional specialized certifications may be required based on the unit.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct systematic, continuous, and comprehensive assessments of patient health status from admission or encounter through discharge across the care continuum.
  • Administer medications within licensure authority, assess and reassess their effects, and document administration according to policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Plan individualized, age-specific patient care with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary care team using current scientific knowledge, care standards, and national patient safety goals.
  • Identify and prioritize patient problems using assessment data, patient safety considerations, patient and family goals, nursing interventions, and the medical plan of care.
  • Implement nursing interventions, applying competent clinical judgment and the chain of command to promote patient safety and achieve planned outcomes.
  • Assess, conduct, and evaluate patient and family teaching throughout the episode of care, including preparation for discharge.
  • Evaluate patient and family responses to interventions, revise multidisciplinary care plans, and address care variances or potential and actual adverse events.
  • Advocate for patients and families, respect their rights and preferences, prepare them for discharge, and obtain feedback to support positive patient satisfaction outcomes.
  • Collaborate with, monitor, and delegate to unlicensed assistive healthcare providers in accordance with regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Orient new healthcare team members and supervise students performing assigned duties.
  • Act as relief charge nurse when unit needs arise.
  • Maintain professional competency through continuing education, competency demonstrations, licensure, and professional activities.
  • Participate in evidence-based practice activities, discuss care outcomes with colleagues, and improve care delivery while maintaining compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Communicate constructively as a collaborative healthcare team member, identify and resolve clinical or interdepartmental problems, and give and receive peer feedback.
  • Perform duties cost-effectively while maintaining quality of care and service.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, standards of conduct, and HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

These awards recognize the hospitals' commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines, ultimately leading to more lives saved and reduced disability. Get With The Guidelines puts the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to work for hospitals nationwide, helping ensure patient care is aligned with the latest research and evidence-based guidelines. Get With The Guidelines - Stroke is an in-hospital program for improving stroke care by promoting consistent adherence to these guidelines, which can minimize the long-term effects of a stroke and even prevent death. Each year, program participants qualify for the award by demonstrating how their organization has committed to providing quality care for stroke patients. In addition to following treatment guidelines, Get With The Guidelines participants also educate patients to help them manage their health and recovery at home. To qualify for the Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite and Elite Plus recognitions, hospitals must meet specific criteria that reduce the time between an eligible patient's arrival at the hospital and treatment with thrombolytic therapy. The American Heart Association's Target: Type 2 Diabetes(TM) Honor Roll award signifies UofL Health's ability to ensure patients with Type 2 diabetes, who might be at higher risk for complications, receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized due to stroke. The facility offers care for minor injuries, illnesses, routine exams and occupational health services. LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - UofL Health is expanding its primary care services in south Louisville. A new Urgent Care Plus is now open at the UofL Health-Medical Center Southend location at 5129 Dixie Highway in the Pleasure Ridge Park neighborhood. The facility offers care for minor injuries, illnesses, routine exams and occupational health services. Care is provided from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. It's UofL Health's seventh urgent care location in the state, and its first in the Shively, PRP and Valley Station areas. "At UofL Health, our mission is to ensure that every community we serve has access to high-quality, compassionate care close to home," Wade Mitzel, CEO of UofL Health-UofL Physicians, said in a news release Monday. "South Louisville has been underserved for far too long, and our investment in the expansion of services at Medical Center Southend reflects our deep commitment to improving health equity, expanding access and caring for people where they are."
