Requirements
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers and working towards Chartered Member status.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering projects in at least one sector that BakerHicks operates in.
  • Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary design teams.
  • Experience guiding and mentoring junior engineers.
  • A relevant degree and chartered status, or willingness to work towards chartered status.
  • Confident communication and presentation skills with the ability to simplify complex ideas.
  • Ability to develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders that deliver long-term benefits.
  • Considerable experience in design, technical detailing, and specification writing.
  • Experience contributing to bids, proposals, and tender specifications.
  • Experience designing Mechanical Building Services systems, including heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning and Public Health systems.
  • Understanding of the commercial elements of projects.
  • Experience using Navisworks and NBS Create / Chorus.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance or assurance level for the role.
Responsibilities
  • Design and specify all aspects of Mechanical Building Services in accordance with current guidelines, standards, regulations, and project deliverables.
  • Contribute to the development and mentoring of the Early Careers population and the continuous improvement of departmental capabilities.
  • Occasionally manage Mechanical Services involvement in small- to medium-size projects, including time, cost, quality, client relationship management, and delivery.
  • Champion quality and compliance controls within local teams and projects.
  • Provide engineering services design and consultancy work on behalf of BakerHicks under the direction of the line manager or project lead.
  • Produce design deliverables, including drawings, specifications, and reports; conduct site surveys and construction-stage duties; liaise with clients and design/construction teams; manage projects and costing; and ensure progress against the project brief.
  • Check calculations and produce detailed drawings to ensure engineering designs meet quality and compliance controls, the project brief, and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary design-team members to deliver safe, efficient, and buildable solutions.
  • Contribute to enquiry plans, tender reviews, fee estimate sheets, scopes of work, and change controls.
  • Ensure team compliance with company quality management and best practices.
  • Manage Engineers, Early Careers staff, and Technicians in producing calculations, design deliverables, site surveys, construction-stage duties, client liaison, project management, costing, and other relevant work.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience delivering multi-disciplinary projects in several sectors that BakerHicks operates in.
  • Experience managing small teams ranging from Apprentices and Graduates to Engineer and Technician level.
  • Professional registration as a Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer.
  • Experience using IES Thermal Modelling, AutoCAD, and Revit.
