Requirements
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience as a practicing attorney with at least five (5) years of specialized healthcare experience working at a law firm, corporate legal department, federal healthcare agency or similar environment
  • Experience providing advice and counsel in the Medicare Managed Care, Medicaid and Commercial Exchanges environments or similar
  • Wide-ranging experience with data privacy topics, preferably in-house and healthcare focused
  • Significant experience with health care regulatory and transactional matters
  • Working knowledge of fraud, waste and abuse laws, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations and other applicable regulatory requirements
  • Knowledge of corporate transaction and contracting processes, including drafting, reviewing, revising and negotiating commercial agreements
  • A hands-on approach and attention to detail in performing various duties, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various regulatory agreements
  • Ability to provide strategic regulatory advice and effectively communicate with senior management on highly complex legal issues
  • Exceptional business judgment, with the ability to think strategically and provide practical advice by balancing business needs with legal risks
  • Effective and strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Ability to independently manage, set priorities, execute effectively and pivot as appropriate and
  • History of being a team player and willingness to contribute wherever needed
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in any US state or Washington, D.C
Responsibilities
  • Lead the provision of legal advice and counsel for the workforce on a variety of matters with a focus on healthcare regulatory compliance, commercial and other business focused topics
  • Counsel senior leaders on complex topics relating to compliance with federal and state regulations, including HIPAA, Anti-Kickback Statute and Medicare and Medicaid regulations
  • Draft, negotiate and advise on a variety of commercial contracts (e.g., software-as-a-service), vendor agreements and other transactional matters that implicate data privacy and compliance considerations
  • Provide subject matter expertise on regulatory and industry developments, including the proactive identification and mitigation of regulatory risk
  • Review and recommend approaches to resolve the privacy aspects of vendor and client contracts and other commercial transactions and advise on any potential privacy related issues
  • Work cross-functionally with business leaders to ensure that contractual terms are compliant with legal and regulatory requirements and company policies
  • Lead corporate initiatives, executive-sponsored special projects and cross-functional teams on behalf of the Legal Department
  • Maintain compliance with Inovalon's policies, procedures and mission statement
  • Adhere to all confidentiality and HIPAA requirements as outlined within Inovalon's Operating Policies and Procedures in all ways and at all times with respect to any aspect of the data handled or services rendered in the undertaking of the position
  • Fulfill those responsibilities and/or duties that may be reasonably provided by Inovalon for the purpose of achieving the operational and financial success of the Company
