Requirements
  • Must have graduated from an approved Medical Assistant program and have a current Medical Assistant Certification license issued from Washington State Department of Health.
  • Must be MA-Certified or possess an MA-Interim License and pass the exam within the 90 day probationary period.
  • Pre-hire and annual employee health screening required.
  • Annual influenza vaccine required with exception for medical or religious exemptions approved by Administration; exempt employees must wear a mask during flu season.
  • Must adhere to Sea Mar Employee Health Screening Policy.
  • Must be able to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR within 90 days of hire date and maintain current BLS CPR throughout employment.
  • Ambulatory care experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and write proficiently in English; ability to speak Spanish preferred.
  • Must be able to interact with diverse populations; strong customer service skills; strong work ethic; dependability.
  • Must be willing to travel to other Sea Mar sites as needed.
  • Must be able to perform essential duties and comply with Sea Mar policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Tracking and documentation of all clinical measures and outcomes (Clinical Quality Measures, Meaningful Use, etc.).
  • Complete all provider referrals for each patient.
  • Administer injections and distribute oral medications under physicians’ orders.
  • Assist the medical provider with charting office visits; ensure communication and documentation for comprehensive patient care coordination.
  • Perform venipuncture, rooming patients, and other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Conduct quality improvement audits as assigned; participate in organizational committees; provide shadowing opportunities for new staff.
  • Ensure all patient clinical measures are addressed through thorough EHR reviews and tracking of clinic forms, lab and x-ray reports.
  • Coordinate and process all patient referrals, working with Referral Coordinators.
  • Work collaboratively with the care team to provide Patient-Centered Medical Home care.
  • Identify and address age-specific needs and clinical measures for patients (infant, adolescent, adult, geriatric).
  • Prepare the patient for visits with the Care Team; obtain subjective information and vital signs.
  • Document all relevant information, care provided and processes in Sea Mar protocols.
  • Prepare exam and procedure rooms and disinfect per protocol.
  • Administer IM, Subcutaneous, and intradermal injections; administer oral, rectal, inhaled medications as ordered; document medication administration.
  • Maintain and reconcile medication and immunization data.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Maintain medication storage, maintenance, dispensing and waste logs; report non-compliance.
  • Perform quality controls and report non-compliance.
  • Assist providers with GYN exams, I&Ds and other minor procedures.
  • Communicate abnormal vital signs to the provider immediately.
  • Use aseptic technique; manage bio-hazardous waste; infection control.
  • Assist with ordering supplies; streamline pod/flow systems; improve efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements including Joint Commission, National Patient Safety Goals, Department of Health, Clinical Quality Measures, Patient-Centered Medical Home, Quality Improvement, and other obligations.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Meet workload metrics: see 18/21 patients per day, 21 patient visits on average per day for full day schedule per provider, etc.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly desired.
  • Ambulatory care experience preferred.
  • Educational certification: Medical Assistant Certificate of Completion.
  • In addition to MA-Certified, ability to obtain MA-Interim License and pass within 90 days.
