Requirements
- The position is part of a diverse Technology team that owns Natron's core competencies
- It necessitates close coordination with Operations counterparts to apply DFM principles for production verification
- Moreover, it requires collaborative work with the Product Engineering team to enable downstream integration of battery cells into pack assembly and the final product
- The ideal candidate is hard-working, team-work oriented, innovative, possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills, and great people skills
- He or she must hold a Bachelor of Science or a more advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering
Responsibilities
- Serve as the functional lead for the Cell Team, managing engineers and associates working on cell design and process development
- Lead design of scalable/manufacturable battery cells through a stage-gate approach of conception, feasibility (prototype assembly), and verification/validation testing, and technology handoff
- Own and maintain all Cell and assembly drawings
- Document and present new product designs along with electrical, thermal, and mechanical analyses (simulations when appropriate)
- Work closely with Product Engineering team members to design battery modules and packs, and develop processes (e.g., interconnects)
- Collaborate with Operations team members during manufacturing equipment selection and develop processes/tooling for production of components in-house and at contract manufacturers
- Required: Bachelor of Science or a more advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Required: minimum of 10 years of experience leading to successful cell design projects and over 3 years leading a team in this area
- Required: Fluency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks and ANSYS to analyze structural, electronic, and thermal properties of cell designs; experience with ANSYS Battery toolkit is a plus
- Expertise in GD&T drafting standards
- Working knowledge of tolerance stack-up design tools for RSS and “Worst Case” analysis
- Highly preferred: hands-on experience with design and fabrication of pouch-format battery cells
- Highly preferred: Six Sigma Training and Certifications (Green belt minimum) with focus on SPC, MSA, DOEs, FMEAs, Hypothesis Testing, etc
- Expertise in battery fabrication processes such as laminate forming, sealing, welding (ultrasonic/laser), Hi-Pot testing, leak testing, plastics processing (injection molding)
- Experience working closely with contract manufacturers and equipment vendors
- Experience working with Quality team in all aspects of planning, assurance, control, and response
