Requirements
  • Completion of a Licensed Practical Nurse program, Surgical Technology program, or Registered Nurse program, or a high school diploma or equivalent with six months of previous scrub experience.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of the hire date.
  • Be capable of prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Be able to lift up to 40 pounds and push or pull heavily loaded carts up to 200 pounds.
  • Possess visual, hearing, and oral acuity, along with manual dexterity and technical ability.
  • Be able to wear lead for extended periods.
  • Respond to call within 30 minutes.
  • Complete annual education related to specialty accreditation requirements when applicable.
Responsibilities
  • Provide intraoperative care to patients by functioning as the scrub person and assisting the surgical team during operative procedures.
  • Use quality aseptic technique when working in an unsterile or sterile role in the operating room.
  • Assist the circulating registered nurse in monitoring the technique of all operating-room personnel to maintain a sterile field.
  • Perform sponge, instrument, and needle counts with the circulating registered nurse according to established guidelines.
  • Assist with gowning and gloving surgeons and positioning equipment and instruments.
  • Pass sterile instruments to the surgical team during surgical procedures.
  • Assist with transporting and positioning patients, including holding retractors and positioning operative limbs under the surgeon’s direction.
  • Prepare supplies and equipment for surgical procedures according to preference cards.
  • Assist with sterilizing and maintaining sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment.
  • Monitor inventory, order and restock supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Remove outdated items and discard or reprocess them according to established guidelines.
  • Assist with general cleaning duties in the department.
  • Perform assigned equipment checks.
  • Assist with properly recording patient charges.
  • Work three 12-hour shifts with rotating call.
