  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required within the three-month introductory period.
  • The employee must obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for assigned roles.
  • The employee must understand computers and demonstrate competence using computers and basic software programs.
  • The employee must maintain required certifications and licenses, when applicable, and complete mandatory and job-specific training within the specified time frame.
Responsibilities
  • Clean and turn over surgical rooms between cases efficiently and sanitarily while adhering to infection-prevention standards, requirements, and techniques.
  • Open, prepare, and stock supplies and equipment for sterile interventions and procedures in the surgical department.
  • Operate, clean, troubleshoot, and reassemble medical equipment and appropriately handle and maintain supplies.
  • Assist with transferring patients from operating-room beds to patient beds and, when assigned, transport patients to and from surgical services.
  • Set up operating-room beds for cases, including Hana, Skytron, Beach Chair, and Mayfield beds.
  • Return case carts and instruments to Sterile Processing for processing at the end of cases.
  • Place surgical instruments and powered equipment sets in proper storage and maintain backup inventory of single instruments in the sterile supply room.
  • Perform daily cleaning of operating-room suites, turnovers, the OR core, sterile instrument rooms, and general surgery-department work areas.
  • During turnovers, make beds, change trash bags and anesthesia circuits, and restock anesthesia supplies.
  • Monitor Teletrac and the ORC system for room turnovers and discharges, then remove equipment and linens, clean and disinfect beds, make beds, and wipe down room equipment.
  • Terminally clean rooms for infectious patients when instructed by the Charge Nurse.
  • Clean equipment glass, monitors, and screens with appropriate cleaning agents.
  • Request maintenance repairs for malfunctioning or broken equipment.
  • Restock, organize, and maintain carts and closets, including linens and garbage bags.
  • Notify the Supervisor when supplies are low, cause physical problems, or do not perform adequately; stock fluids in warmers, blankets, and snap gowns.
  • Provide change-of-shift reports to the relief technician and report missing or damaged items and other pertinent information to the Charge Nurse.
  • Communicate operational needs to the RN, OR Technician, Supervisor, or Manager and communicate break and shift-end coverage needs to the Charge Nurse.
  • Report safety incidents through the Midas/RDE tool, attend safety training, work safely, and monitor the work environment for safety issues.
  • Follow contact-precaution and blood-borne-pathogen safety guidelines and comply with applicable regulatory, organizational, hospital, and departmental policies.
Desired Qualifications
  • SPD Tech 2 status is preferred.
