POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Financial Reporting Manager will serve as a key member of Fenway Sports Group finance team. This position will be responsible for calculating and recording significant and complex financial transactions according to GAAP, preparing technical accounting memos, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements including footnotes, managing external audits and owning other reporting requirements. This role will also be involved in system implementations, process improvement, and spearheading compliance initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in the month end close process and own the recording of complex accounting transactions
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and insights that support decision-making
- Work cross-functionally on technical accounting matters and draft related analyses and memos
- Assist in the preparation of annual US GAAP financial statements and related footnotes at the FSG Consolidated level and for several stand-alone audits of subsidiaries
- Collaborate with other subsidiary management teams on their financial statement audits and other related topics
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting by routinely updating processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Support new system implementations and maintain financial reporting systems to streamline reporting processes and improve accuracy
- Liaise with the external auditors to support all aspects of the annual audits including providing necessary documentation and responding to auditor queries
- Stay updated on changes in financial regulations and standards, ensuring the organization’s reporting remains compliant
- Work closely with various stakeholders, including senior management, auditors, and regulatory bodies, to communicate financial information effectively
- Support Controller on key accounting tasks/deliverables including ad hoc financial reports, tables, exhibits as requested
CHARACTERISTICS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance - Master’s degree preferred (CPA designation required)
- 5-7 years of relevant accounting/financial analysis required
- Strong technical knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) and ability to conduct research and document conclusions
- Familiar with regulatory requirements and compliance standards for financial reporting
- Proficient in preparing, analyzing, and interpreting financial statements, including the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement
- Knowledge of financial consolidations, eliminations, and non-controlling interest
- Proven experience with process documentation of accounting procedures and internal controls in a dynamic environment
- Excellent written and speaking skills including preparation and presentation of reports and recommendations
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
- Strong attention to detail, decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Demonstration of the highest level of integrity and trust
- Advanced Excel Skills required (Dashboards, Complex lookups, Data Conversion, Pivot Tables, Financial Modeling, etc.) and proficiency with other Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Experience using accounting software, Microsoft Great Plains & NetSuite a plus
