Assistant County Attorney, Polk County, Florida.Polk County is seeking an Assistant County Attorney I, II, or III.This is a career opportunity to serve in a fast-paced local government law office.The successful candidate must have a positive attitude, be a self-starter, self-sufficient, and able to perform with a minimum of supervision. The position does not allow for remote work and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.The position may require reporting to work when a declaration of emergency has been declared by Polk County. Duties may include, without limitation: provide legal advice to and review agenda matters from assigned divisions; attend, participate in, and make presentations at staff meetings, to competitive selection committees, lay boards, Special Magistrates, Land Use Hearing Officers, and the Board of County Commissioners; draft and negotiate contracts; extensive legal research; litigation and such other duties as may be assigned.Membership in good standing with the Florida Bar Association is required prior to commencement of employment.Candidates that have taken or are scheduled to take the Florida Bar Examination and waiting results will be considered.

The salary for the position is negotiable depending on experience. Starting salary for the position of Attorney 1 is $75,825.98 (0-3 years of experience), Attorney II is $87,770.59 (4-6 years of experience), and Attorney III is $112,041.70 (7+ years of experience).The anticipated start date is on or about October 15, 2025, or shortly thereafter, however, the position will remain open until filled by a qualified individual.
