Requirements
  • Preferred high school diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Preferred minimum of 1 year of related work experience.
  • Ability to communicate, manage disease-related hazards, work within a healthcare regulatory environment, control infection, manage spills, and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to wear standard personal protective equipment and follow posted isolation precautions when entering isolation rooms.
  • Ability to operate ladders and powered floor-care equipment safely.
  • Ability to comply with hospital policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and medication-room protocols when applicable.
Responsibilities
  • Clean and disinfect patient rooms, surgical suites, clinical areas, office spaces, corridors, stairwells, restrooms, hallways, public areas, and other assigned spaces according to current industry practices and established policies.
  • Handle municipal, recyclable, pharmaceutical, biohazardous, chemotherapeutic, and sharps waste streams.
  • Use hospital-approved chemical cleaners and power equipment properly to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Place signage indicating that cleaning is occurring and floors are wet to reduce fall risks.
  • Report identified facility repairs according to established policies and procedures.
  • Use mobile technology for bed tracking, environmental services functions, and supply inventory management.
  • Operate chemclave and autoclave equipment for red-bag waste in accordance with regulatory requirements, and package red-bag waste for shipment when the equipment is unavailable.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment before entering operating-room suites.
  • Manage fluid waste systems, including placing systems in docking stations for emptying and sanitizing and returning them to service.
  • Perform detailed cleaning such as dusting, wall washing, cleaning ceilings, tracks, vents, lights, and booms.
  • Scrub, remove floor finishes, buff or burnish, and recoat floors using powered floor-care equipment where applicable.
  • Extract carpets or direct the safe and effective use of carpet-care equipment, chemicals, and procedures.
  • Remove and install privacy curtains using ladders while following isolation-cleaning and scheduled-cleaning protocols.
  • Collect soiled linen and transport it to the hospital staging area for vendor pickup.
  • Assist the team leader with supply inventory management using mobile technology.
  • Perform or direct project work, including moving equipment and office materials, construction cleaning, and emergency disaster cleaning.
  • Complete mandatory education on medication-room protocols before entering medication rooms, where applicable.
  • Work evening shifts from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., including weekend and holiday rotation.

  • Related work experience of at least 1 year.
  • High school diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Opportunity to obtain the Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician certification.
