Charter Communications and Cox Communications announced a merger to create a leader in mobile and broadband services. The deal values Cox at $34.5 billion. Charter will acquire Cox's commercial fiber and IT businesses, while Cox's residential cable business will join Charter Holdings. Cox Enterprises will receive $4 billion in cash, $6 billion in convertible preferred units, and 33.6 million common units. Cox will own 23% of the combined entity. The merger awaits regulatory and shareholder approvals.
