West Monroe has an immediate opportunity for a seasoned consulting leader with deep Energy & Utilities experience on the West Coast, to help lead our national E&U practice while aligned to one of our West Coast offices.
As a Managing Director/Partner, you will work with the Central and West Coast Leadership Teams focused on building, retaining, and growing a team of Energy & Utilities Consultants. This role entails significant responsibility in developing new business, managing the client relationship at the executive levels, mainly with West Coast utility clients, and providing direction and oversight to project teams.

This leadership role will have three areas of responsibility:
Client Delivery
- Lead teams serving Energy & Utilities clients while demonstrating executive presence with high level client counterparts
- Interface with all levels of business and Energy & Utilities leadership both internally and at client sites
- Mentor and manage teams on client projects to be able to keep project on schedule
- Develop project deliverables and review the work products of the team
- Manage project risks and issues
- Act as the Client relationship manager with C-level executives
- Facilitate client workshops focused on project initiation and executive steering meetings
- Understand the underlying business processes and technologies being used within an organization to be able to make recommendations on how to achieve long-term scalability, reduce operational cost, or better support business processes
Practice Development
- Collaborate with local office leadership to define the office culture, strategic direction, and actively lead entrepreneurial activities in an office environment
- Drive the development/enhancement of WMP’s methodologies and approaches to client delivery
- Coach and lead other consultants and actively participate in the performance management process
- Actively participate in recruiting and retaining top quality consultants
- Contribute to West Monroe’s National & Regional Energy & Utilities Practices (methodology, practice aids, team), and drive behaviors into the organization in partnership with other directors
- Lead, mentor and grow consultants and actively participate in the career advisory and performance management process
- Participate actively in the recruiting process for additional practice managers and consultants
- Provide entrepreneurial desire and act with selflessness to give your time, energy, and passion to growing the firm’s culture and our people both inside and outside of office hours
- Work with business partners across the firm to expand awareness of the Team’s capabilities and opportunities
- Collaborate with local office leadership to ensure alignment with the office culture, define the strategic direction of the Energy & Utilities team, and actively lead entrepreneurial activities to expand offerings and the skills of the team
- Contribute to the development of the San Fran’s office’s culture and growth
Business Development
- Cultivate new and existing client development opportunities for the E&U Consulting Practice
- Generate significant weekly prospecting/networking activities (events, meetings, phone calls, emails) in the pursuit of new client acquisition and brand awareness in the Northeast market
- Originate and manage client development opportunities and sales cycle with prospective clients
- Engage with business partners across the firm to identify and cross sell opportunities
- Build an excellent understanding of client business needs turning those goals into concrete projects and detailed proposals
- Lead development of proposals, work plans, pricing estimates, and risk assessments for project prospects
- Attend networking events and actively build and leverage a professional network and affiliate network in the local Energy & Utilities community
Qualifications:
- Deep knowledge of and direct experience with Smart Grid / Smart Meter solutions
- Minimum 10 years of work experience within the Energy & Utilities industry and at least five years of Smart Grid experience
- A minimum of 8 years of consulting experience and EITHER a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business OR Equivalent experience required
- Prior experience managing medium-large teams of professional services consultants and large projects
- Practice development and strong leadership skills
- Strong client development and an active professional network of contacts on the West Coast
- Ability to travel up to 40%
- Strong project management methodology background, including schedule, scope, issue and risk management experience, change management, strategic planning and analysis
- Mature business development, project management and consulting skills; writing and presentation of business solutions
- Business skills: listening, clarifying, asking questions, recommending, proposing ideas and solutions
- Positive attitude, excellent customer communications skills and the ability to act on own initiative with a strong commitment to customer service

Based on pay transparency guidelines, a reasonable expectation for the salary range for this role is $290- $370k. Individual salaries are determined by evaluating a variety of factors including geography, cost of labor, experience, skills, education, and internal equity.
