Requirements
  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma is required.
  • Two years of experience in student financial accounts, banking, or a related area are required.
  • Knowledge of college, local, state, and federal regulations related to student billing, payment processing, refunds, confidentiality, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, and applicable student services procedures is required.
  • Knowledge of cashiering, account reconciliation, recordkeeping, basic mathematics, statistics, research, and analysis techniques is required.
  • Skilled in providing accurate, professional customer service to diverse students, staff, parents, and community members in person, by phone, and through written communication.
  • Skilled in using student information systems, word processing, spreadsheets, email, data-entry systems, and other computer applications to complete assigned work accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to communicate complex terms, procedures, account information, and technology-related instructions clearly and in plain language is required.
  • Ability to balance cashiering sessions, maintain accurate documentation, prepare and review reports, and follow established policies and procedures is required.
  • Ability to research questions, interpret information, resolve or escalate issues appropriately, and apply sound judgment when handling confidential or sensitive information is required.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-demand environment, work independently with minimal instruction, demonstrate initiative and flexibility, and contribute effectively as part of a team is required.
  • Ability to respond professionally to difficult customer situations, defuse conflict, resolve complaints, and maintain collegial working relationships is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide information on student-service topics to students, staff, parents, and community members in person, by phone, email, and other communication methods.
  • Assess student needs and proactively discuss financial planning related to the college experience; facilitate payment plans for current student accounts.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for accurately receipting, recording, refunding, and balancing tuition payments and college revenues.
  • Balance daily cashiering sessions and prepare deposits.
  • Research and resolve or redirect student inquiries and disputes in collaboration with college-wide personnel.
  • Handle difficult customer situations and disputes using tact, diplomacy, and patience to defuse irate or angry customers.
  • Provide support and information to other members of Treasury Services.
  • Process scholarships, payments, collections, and account-balance write-offs as assigned college-wide processes.
  • Assist with past-due student accounts by contacting students through phone, email, and mailings.
  • Maintain student-account documentation to assist agencies in collecting outstanding accounts.
  • Perform daily maintenance for State Set-Off receipts by checking the DFA website for money received and posting payments.
  • Perform complex cashiering functions for student accounts and other college areas according to college procedures and policies.
  • Prepare check requests for scholarship returns and submit them to the Treasury Manager for approval.
  • Provide appropriate referrals with supporting documentation as required.
  • Maintain cashier procedures and update them as necessary.
  • Attend required training sessions, Treasury Services functions, and staff meetings to refresh knowledge and skills.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support department and college goals and objectives.
