Requirements
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support/Health Care Provider certification.
  • Knowledge, sensitivity, and expertise in caring for seniors and their families.
  • Knowledge, skills, and judgment to provide a full range of care and treatment to patients/clients, including those with complex needs, high acuity, and less predictable outcomes.
  • Effective written and verbal communication with patients/clients and families.
  • Ability to practice collaboratively and communicate clearly with interdisciplinary team members.
  • Ability to set priorities and organize work in response to patient/client and unit needs.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning, professional development, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, incident reporting systems, internet searches, data entry, and patient information systems.
  • Knowledge and skill in crisis intervention and conflict resolution.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, critical-thinking, team-building, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent work performance and attendance record.
  • Recent related emergency nursing experience, including adult, child, and/or critical care.
  • Ability to complete the required orientation.
Responsibilities
  • Adhere to and model the Standards and Guidelines of the College of Nurses of Ontario, the organization's mission, vision, and values, policies and procedures, and applicable specialty standards.
  • Provide patient/client-centred and evidence-informed care to promote health and assess the need for care and treatment through supportive, preventative, therapeutic, palliative, and rehabilitative means.
  • Collaborate with the inter-professional team.
  • Assume a clinical leadership role in delivering a full range of care and treatment to patients/clients, including those with complex needs, high acuity, and less predictable outcomes.
  • Work in the Emergency Department at Charlton Campus and Urgent Care at King Campus according to scheduling needs and operational demands.
  • Cover maternity leaves, medical leaves, other long-term leaves, and shorter-term or episodic unit needs as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach training.
  • Membership in the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario, Canadian Nurses Association, or another professional association.
  • Minimum 3 years of recent related general nursing experience.
  • Post-RN Emergency Nursing certificate or diploma.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course certificate.
  • Advanced patient assessment, triage, and arrhythmia interpretation courses.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications.
  • Emergency Nursing Certificate/Diploma or Critical Care Certificate.
