Requirements
  • The candidate must have at least 3 years of software engineering experience, including meaningful experience building and operating production application software.
  • The candidate must understand state handling, including state machines, behaviour trees, or equivalent patterns, and reason about complex system lifecycles and transitions under real-world conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, debug, and maintain production artificial intelligence software systems across voice, conversational state, and memory and recall workflows.
  • Own and improve critical parts of the intelligence stack, including turn-taking, conversational state orchestration, memory retrieval, prompt and context-window management, and output behaviours defining the robot’s personality in customer interactions.
  • Build and maintain telemetry, instrumentation, and quality metrics across the stack; use data to identify regressions, measure improvements, and inform prioritisation.
  • Evaluate and integrate voice and language foundation models, balancing accuracy, latency, cost, and resource consumption on constrained hardware.
  • Improve software quality across reliability, performance, maintainability, and observability, prioritising production stability.
  • Build resilient systems that handle ambient noise, partial utterances, network drops, hardware variance, and unexpected power cycles.
  • Communicate clearly, document decisions, and take ownership of outcomes end to end.
  • Design, implement, instrument, deploy, observe, and improve systems running on edge hardware in aged-care homes.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Python and its asyncio library.
  • Exposure to robotics or embedded Linux, including ROS 2, Jetson/ARM, or NixOS.
  • A track record of improving production reliability through monitoring, alerting, incident response, or service-level objectives.
  • Experience building evaluation harnesses, quality dashboards, or automated regression detection for artificial intelligence systems.
  • Experience with retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, vector databases, or conversational long-term memory systems.
  • Direct experience with LiveKit, Pipecat, or similar real-time voice-agent frameworks.
  • Exposure to lower-level languages such as C++ or Rust for performance-critical paths.
  • Publications, side projects, unconventional experience, or other evidence of initiative and capability.
  • Ability to grow skills, ownership, and knowledge quickly.

Andromeda Robotics wins 1st place Reach Award at FTC South League Tournament. In February 2026, Andromeda Robotics made their mark at the FTC South League Tournament, a major robotics competition held in Romania through the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) program, organized nationally by Nație prin Educație. The team's efforts were recognized with the prestigious Reach Award - 1st place, given to teams that go above and beyond to promote STEM/STEAM education and robotics to different communities. This award celebrates meaningful outreach, educational initiatives, and inspiring others to engage with science and technology. Andromeda's achievement was the result of a truly international and collaborative effort. The team brings together members and volunteers from 10 different countries, united by a shared spirit of Gracious Professionalism(R), the core FIRST value emphasizing respect, collaboration, and learning. Its team organized many events in the DECODE season, some of which are South League Performance, Offline Sessions, Future at High Speed League Meet, launched the Apollo mission, with a series of interviews about STEM connecting FTC teams around the world, teams from Romania, but also from USA, China, Thailand, and Australia; they continued with Meals on Wheels charity program to DAS Pantelimon, Robotics for All, FTC Leadership Academy, and they even managed to set up an NGO - such a busy schedule! Each department contributed to the team's success: Hardware: Designed, built, and maintained the robot to ensure the team performed at the top level. Software: Created precise control and automation for the team's matches during the competition. 3D Printing: Created custom parts and rapid prototypes to test and improve the team's design. Marketing: Recorded the team's journey and shared their story with the community. PR: Facilitated partnerships to increase the scope of the team's outreach to the world of robotics and STEAM education. Over two days of matches, the Andromeda Robotics team demonstrated their skills and teamwork on the field, as well as the true meaning of FIRST: inspiring others and making a positive impact on the world.
