Requirements
  • Requires a high school diploma, GED equivalent, or specialized vocational training.
  • Must possess a valid state commercial driver's license with appropriate endorsements, or obtain a commercial driver's license permit within three months of hire.
  • Must obtain a commercial driver's license, Class B, with appropriate endorsements within six months of hire; a Class A or B commercial driver's license must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
  • Must possess a commercial driver's license to be hired as Equipment Operator I; without a commercial driver's license, the employee will be considered a maintenance worker.
  • Requires over six months and up to and including one year of experience.
Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy equipment to construct, maintain, and repair paved and unpaved County roads, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways, ditches, catch basins, and storm drainage systems.
  • Operate heavy equipment to maintain public rights-of-way.
  • Operate heavy equipment to assist other divisions and departments as necessary, including maintaining County landfills.
  • Manually load and unload materials onto vehicles and transport equipment and materials to and from work sites.
  • Use hand and power tools in various manual tasks as required.
  • Inspect equipment to ensure proper and safe working condition and report defects or required maintenance to the supervisor.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of assigned tools and equipment.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and quality and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate and complete work records as required.
  • Operate dump trucks and other equipment as needed.
