Requirements
  • Must be an active continuing matriculated student.
  • Must have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, close attention to detail, and strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Must be able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions from a supervisor and communicate clearly with Making Center users.
  • Must be adaptable and consistent when notifying the supervisor of schedule changes.
  • Must be able to interact with students, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds.
  • Must be able to work without close supervision or alone.
  • Must be familiar with Google Suite, including Calendar, Gmail, Docs, and Sheets.
  • Must be able to lift items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities
  • Cultivate a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment and a respectful shop culture for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Provide customer service while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor in interactions with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Report for shifts on time and review priority tasks with the supervisor.
  • Monitor patrons entering and exiting the shop space and remain available to assist them.
  • Provide information regarding department services, policies, and procedures to students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
  • Perform reception duties, including greeting visitors and answering phone calls professionally and courteously.
  • Assist students and faculty with reservations and equipment requests.
  • Assist Making Center staff with shop upkeep, organization, and maintenance.
  • Support Film Office managers by maintaining film equipment and resources.
  • Assist faculty and students with Film Office equipment.
  • Use online resources, including websites and web-based platforms.
  • Perform on-site check-ins and check-outs of camera and grip equipment.
  • Attend assigned classes or workshop sessions, arriving early to check out equipment and staying through the end to pack and return equipment.
  • Support faculty and students in using Film Office equipment.
  • Assist with maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of various machinery.
  • Perform regular upkeep of shops and spaces to maintain organization and cleanliness.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
  • Participate in training sessions and staff meetings.
