The agency works by implementing and enforcing environmental laws and regulations, conducting assessments, and promoting sustainable practices to protect natural resources. Unlike many other state agencies, Oregon DEQ emphasizes workplace diversity and equity, ensuring that it provides equal opportunities regardless of race, gender, or other factors. The goal of Oregon DEQ is to restore and maintain a healthy environment for all Oregonians.
