Requirements
  • Hold, or be eligible for, licensure as an ophthalmologist in the province of Quebec.
  • Have completed advanced training (e.g., subspecialty fellowship and/or advanced degree(s) such as a Master of Public Health, or equivalent).
  • Have expertise in research and demonstrated collaboration in conducting clinical studies.
Responsibilities
  • Engage in the academic activities of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, including pursuing academic studies in clinical and/or basic research and providing surgical and medical retina care.
  • Demonstrate interest and proficiency in uveitis, ocular oncology, and ocular ultrasonography; take a leading role in future departmental projects such as telemedicine and advanced surgical techniques.
  • Engage in relevant aspects of a university-affiliated ophthalmology department, including clinical duties, education, and research, and provide excellent clinical teaching and supervision to medical students, residents, and clinical fellows.
  • Develop an innovative independent research program, ideally externally funded.
  • Ensure clinical resources, allocation of operating time, and infrastructure support commensurate with needs.
  • Be involved in McGill’s academic mission including research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees.
  • Contribute to service activities within units, the University, and wider scholarly community; show commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and health care professionals.
  • Demonstrated Commitment to Teaching: a strong dedication to resident and fellow education, with an ability to contribute meaningfully to both clinical and academic teaching programs.
  • Expertise in Ocular Oncology: proven interest and clinical proficiency in ocular oncology, offering the potential to expand and strengthen subspecialty care within the department.
  • Institutional Engagement: a willingness and ability to contribute to broader institutional goals through active participation in both academic and administrative initiatives.
  • Collaborative Leadership in Retina Service: a collegial and team-oriented approach to managing a high-volume retina service, including shared responsibilities during regular clinical hours and after-hours care.
