Requirements
  • Licensed Journeyman Electrician certification.
  • Two to five years of relevant work experience.
  • A current Ontario driver's licence with an acceptable driver's abstract.
  • Current Working at Heights certification.
  • Current CSA Z462 Arc Flash training.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform electrical installations, maintenance work, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Knowledge of electrical and fire codes, legislation, regulations, building operation manuals, operating procedures, safety guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of specialty tools such as electrical diagnostic meters, power tools, and power quality instrumentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and equipment specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to use PC-based software systems such as building automation systems or computerized energy management systems, Lutron lighting systems, Simplex and Edwards EST fire alarm systems, and other related software.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently to develop solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, faculty, students, and visitors within the physical space being maintained.
  • Ability to estimate equipment and component requirements for renovations, installations, and repairs.
  • Ability to review existing installations and evaluate whether additional components or fixtures can be added without compromising safety or operation.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and continually assess risks.
  • Ability to resolve emergency situations.
Responsibilities
  • Perform routine, scheduled electrical maintenance work on systems ranging from 24 volts to 13,800 volts, including power distribution, fire alarm, lighting, and building automation control systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment, including medium-voltage relay protection systems and associated 125-volt direct-current controls, normal and emergency power systems, interior and exterior lighting and controls, automated clocks, variable frequency drives, and analog and digital building automation control devices.
  • Serve as an on-call Electrician or Fire Technician by responding to priority calls involving fire alarm deactivation and reactivation, power outages, and electrical equipment issues.
  • Work assigned shifts, including morning or afternoon shifts, and work overtime when required.
  • Install new electrical equipment, including outlets, service entrance panels, light fixtures, lighting control systems, fire detection devices, and building automation control devices.
  • Work with and assist Facilities Management staff and contracted trades on electrical-related items.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working area and report unsafe conditions.

  • Fire Technician certification.
