Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science or other life science with completion of at least a 12-month training program in Medical Technology
  • Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical or biological science from an accredited college or university and one year training and/or experience in the specialty in which testing is to be performed; such training must be equivalent to that received in a school of Medical Technology
  • 90 semester hours from an accredited institution that include 16 biology, 16 chemistry (at least 6 inorganic), and 3 math
  • Completed an accredited clinical laboratory training program, or six months to one year documented laboratory training or experience in the specialty that testing is to be performed
  • Must qualify as testing personnel under CLIA 1988 and New York State Department of Health requirements
Responsibilities
  • Perform assigned clinical laboratory testing accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Resolve pendings, retrieve and check specimens against pending list, document specimen discrepancies, and notify laboratory management when specimen discrepancies are not resolved.
  • Prepare workstation and instrumentation for the assigned testing.
  • Properly handle specimens and independently resolve technical specimen issues in preparation for analysis and specimen storage, contacting internal customers for clarification as needed.
  • Operate instruments to perform testing in accordance with established written procedures.
  • Perform routine testing and calculations as required.
  • Resolve routine and non-routine assay problems.
  • Ensure the validity of tests results through the performance of established quality assurance and quality control procedures.
  • Perform experiments as scheduled for evaluation of new Calibrator and/or QC lots; summarize results and compile data for review by management.
  • Document quality control results, interpret according to Westgard rules or other established procedures, and document biases, warnings and violations of control values.
  • Document corrective action for unusual occurrences (e.g. QC violations, instrument related problems).
  • Analyze proficiency testing survey samples as patient specimens.
  • Receive, open and place in service reagents/materials according to SOPs; prepare and properly label reagent, quality control, calibrator material; document implementation of new reagents/materials; perform parallel testing, linearity, stability and other quality control practices; perform inventory control of supplies and reagents as approved by management.
  • Enter data manually or automatically and ensure peer review is performed prior to release of results; prepare proper documentation of test results and enter into the information system; generate an audit trail for all activities; communicate any result reporting problems to laboratory management; complete testing within expected turnaround time.
  • Ensure maintenance of instruments and equipment according to manufacturer and SOP requirements; calibrate instruments/assays as required; perform basic instrument troubleshooting; perform pipette calibrations and document; notify management if instrument/equipment does not meet specifications.
  • Comply with regulatory guidelines and Labcorp SOPs at all times.
  • Participate in training and maintain up-to-date training files; ensure training is documented prior to performing a task; complete competency assessments and provide documentation; assist in training new employees; attend mandatory meetings and training as required.
  • Work to achieve partnership with internal customers and external clients; pull data for QA and client reviews; respond to audit findings and inquiries; coordinate with resources to resolve issues; research and respond to status inquiries for test results, sample retrieval, and storage; understand department metrics and goals.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in applicable computer systems and software.
  • Adhere to safety policies and universal precautions; maintain a clean, organized and safe work environment; minimize biohazard waste; clean workstation daily.
  • Take action for the department when additional responsibilities and opportunities are presented; provide laboratory management with reports of activities upon request.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Labcorp launches AI-powered platform with AWS and Datavant to accelerate Alzheimer's research

Labcorp has launched an AI-powered real-world data platform to accelerate Alzheimer's disease research, developed in collaboration with Amazon Web Services and Datavant. The platform aims to generate insights in minutes that previously required months of data analysis. The system combines Labcorp's diagnostic and genomic datasets with medical claims data, using AWS AI services including Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker. It enables researchers to identify patient cohorts, track disease progression and measure treatment effectiveness across diverse populations using deidentified healthcare data. NEW YORK - Laboratory Corporation of America this week said it has completed its acquisition of select assets of Crouse Health's Laboratory Alliance of Central New York's laboratory business.
