Requirements
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and commitment to patient-centered care are required.
  • A minimum of 1 year of recent perioperative experience is preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds is required.
  • Registered Nurse credential is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school is required.
Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate competency in scrub and surgical routines, including scrubbing, gowning, and gloving for self, surgeons, and assistants.
  • Continuously monitor aseptic practices in scrub, circulator, and assistant roles.
  • Anticipate surgeon needs and recognize procedural sequences across surgical specialties.
  • Pass instruments accurately and efficiently while maintaining readiness for assigned procedures.
  • Follow protocols for autoclaves and Steris units, including daily A-Tests and biological tests.
  • Care for, handle, and assemble instruments for reprocessing.
  • Document flash and Steris cycles according to protocol.
  • Safely handle, appropriately use, and preserve department supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and communicate relevant intraoperative data.
  • Develop individualized intraoperative care plans based on patient needs and surgical requirements.
  • Provide direct patient care supporting patients' physical and psychological well-being during surgery.
  • Evaluate patient responses and adjust nursing care plans to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Apply theoretical and practical perioperative nursing knowledge to surgical practices.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation of intraoperative nursing care.
  • Apply proper intraoperative positioning to prevent nerve injury, pressure-related skin breakdown, and other complications.
  • Follow universal skin care precautions to promote patient safety and comfort.
  • Assist with sponge, sharps, instrument, and miscellaneous item counts according to policy.
  • Collaborate with Resource Registered Nurses and PCCs to maintain current surgeon preference sheets.
  • Prioritize perioperative activities using critical-thinking and time-management skills.
  • Maintain precision in patient charging, cost-effective supply usage, and transmission of required billing data.
  • Contribute to efficient room turnover through availability and communication with the OR Desk, Charge Registered Nurse, and PCCs.
  • Contain body fluid spills, perform gross cleanup, and prepare the operating room between procedures.
  • Prioritize case completion and room setup to support efficient surgical workflow.
