Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in engineering systems or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in HVAC equipment sales.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals and HVAC concepts and operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations involving whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, rates, ratios, and percentages, and to create and interpret graphs.
  • Ability to build rapport and strengthen relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Strong problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to evaluate the urgency of situations and prioritize tasks.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Ability to travel to and from job sites and factories, including out-of-town travel and occasional overnight stays.
  • Ability to study product literature and attend seminars to remain current on products, processes, and materials, and familiarity with competitors' product lines and applicable specifications.
  • Ability to perform the stated physical requirements, including regular lifting, moving, or pushing of up to 20 pounds and occasional lifting, moving, or pushing of 100 or more pounds.
  • Ability to work in office settings and at indoor and outdoor job sites, including around moving mechanical parts, heights, extreme temperatures, humidity, fumes or chemicals, and loud noise.
Responsibilities
  • Promote HVAC equipment and direct digital control systems to mechanical engineers and contractors.
  • Assist mechanical engineers and contractors with equipment and service problems and recommend suitable resolutions.
  • Communicate solutions using product lines and develop presentations, webinars, and lunch-and-learn sessions.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations explaining products and services to customers and prospective customers.
  • Arrange demonstrations or trial installations of equipment.
  • Work with the Sales Account Executive to promote additional HVAC products, including grilles, registers, diffusers, and variable air volume boxes.
  • Handle calls and inquiries from engineers and contractors.
  • Attend trade shows and conventions to promote products.
  • Review upcoming projects and remain current on plans, addenda, and bid dates.
  • Develop sales proposals, specifications, estimates, and presentations.
  • Perform layouts with engineers and contractors as directed.
  • Prepare quotes for new products or services.
  • Negotiate prices or terms of sale.
  • Follow up with engineers and contractors on bids.
  • Prepare formal submittals containing schematics, descriptions, and technical information for owner representative review and approval.
  • Assist project management and support staff in coordinating orders with engineers and contractors.
  • Price change orders as necessary.
  • Assist project management with freight and warranty claims.
  • Meet regularly with mechanical engineers and contractors to build relationships and identify new business leads.
  • Identify and maintain a prospect list.
  • Participate in civic and professional organizations to network and build relationships.
  • Support and improve customer relationship management programs and procedures.
  • Solicit service feedback from key customers.
  • Visit project sites and attend job meetings as required.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with manufacturers.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and resolve difficult and sensitive issues.
  • Maintain customer records using designated computer and electronic systems and media.
  • Participate in sales team meetings.
  • Share opportunities and information with relevant team members.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to understand and promote other company products and services.
  • Recommend process improvements as identified.

AIR Control Concepts founder steps aside as CEO, announces leadership reshuffle

AIR Control Concepts, the largest commercial HVAC, electrical and controls platform globally, has announced leadership changes effective 1 January 2027. Founder Brad Hobbs will transition from president and chief executive officer to executive chair, whilst Hayden Bland, currently president and chief operating officer, will become president and CEO. Hobbs will remain on AIR's board and focus on mergers and acquisitions, strategic growth initiatives, and key relationships. He will continue leading Hobbs & Associates, the original platform business. Additionally, Aaron Lewis will join AIR as chief operating officer on 1 October 2026. Lewis brings extensive experience from Johnson Controls and will oversee the company's Equipment business segment whilst supporting international expansion. The Norfolk, Virginia-based company operates across more than 50 operating companies with over 3,500 associates worldwide.

The deal marks AIR's entry into California and strengthens its national platform. Former Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin joins AIR Control Concepts board of directors

Glenn Youngkin, Virginia's 74th governor and former co-CEO of the Carlyle Group, has joined the board of directors at AIR Control Concepts. The Norfolk-based HVAC and mechanical services platform operates more than 45 companies with over 3,500 employees across North America and Europe. Youngkin, who served as governor from 2022 to 2026 and spent 25 years at Carlyle Group, is a long-time friend of AIR CEO Brad Hobbs. The two were high school teammates and later worked together during Youngkin's gubernatorial campaign. The appointment marks Youngkin's first corporate board position since leaving office. He holds degrees from Rice University and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar. AIR continues expanding its network of operating companies whilst maintaining their local market expertise and entrepreneurial culture.
