Requirements
  • At least 7 years of progressive accounting experience in a professional services environment, including at least 2 years supervising accounting staff or managing cross-client operations in an agency setting.
  • Direct legal accounting experience and demonstrable experience with law firm accounting workflows, including IOLTA trust compliance and legal software.
  • Experience managing at least 30 accounts simultaneously.
  • Expert-level understanding of financial statements, variance analyses, accrual and adjusting entries, and neglected trust-account cleanup.
  • Ability to manage synchronization and mapping between cloud accounting ecosystems and legal practice management or billing software.
  • Advanced hands-on proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Clio or equivalent legal technology platforms.
  • Ability to learn new technology and bookkeeping systems quickly.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Ability to perform complex legal-technology reconciliation and regulatory trust tracking, including three-way reconciliations.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of law firm clients.
  • Review monthly financial packages produced by the accounting team before delivery to law firm partners and verify accurate three-way IOLTA matching.
  • Execute severe, backlogged, or out-of-balance historical trust-account cleanups and complex multi-entity onboarding files.
  • Supervise and mentor new or struggling team members and implement structured training plans addressing Clio mapping, trust rules, and self-review techniques.
  • Oversee onboarding and setup for new bookkeeping clients.
  • Build, refine, and maintain internal workflows, standardized closing checklists, and quality-control systems.
  • Monitor team portfolio health, deadlines, workload distribution, and client satisfaction metrics, and report to the Director.
  • Perform daily data entry, IOLTA trust cleanups, partner-facing calls, billing-portal work, bank and credit-card account work, accounts payable, and self-reviewed financial reporting packages.
  • Handle optional payroll and accounts payable or 1099 reporting when required.
  • Assist with selling the service, handle general client matters, and attend client events to represent the service.
Desired Qualifications
  • A CPA license or active progress toward a CPA or master's designation.
  • Experience with multiple bookkeeping systems or legal technology platforms.
