Requirements
  • The candidate must possess a valid current or temporary Alaska Registered Nurse license.
  • The candidate must have the knowledge and skills normally demonstrated by an Associate’s degree in nursing.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, or additional certification and continuing education may be required based on the area of practice.
  • The candidate must be able to prioritize, think creatively, and solve problems flexibly.
  • The candidate must communicate clearly in verbal and written forms.
Responsibilities
  • Assess patients’ physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
  • Review patient history, physical information, diagnostics, and laboratory data, and report abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers.
  • Complete patient assessments and reassessments according to patient needs and policy.
  • Formulate, initiate, review, and revise patient-specific plans of care, including discharge plans, in collaboration with patients, families, physicians, and the multidisciplinary health care team.
  • Implement plans of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health care team activities.
  • Provide care according to physician orders, nursing plans of care, policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements.
  • Delegate appropriately and provide nursing supervision for care delivered by other licensed nurses and personnel.
  • Promote continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating patient status to other caregivers.
  • Evaluate patient and family responses to care and teaching, assess progress toward goals and expected outcomes, and revise plans of care as needed.
  • Document assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, nursing interventions, patient responses, and physician orders accurately, legibly, timely, and according to policy.
  • Provide care based on the best available evidence and participate in research activities within clinical practice when applicable.
  • Participate in unit or facility shared leadership.
  • Participate in the education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
  • Promote the growth of others by acting as a preceptor or mentor when appropriate.
  • Participate in activities that improve nursing quality indicators and patient outcomes, including professional organization activities when applicable.
  • In some roles, supervise department staff and workflow.
  • Perform all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards.
  • Provide customers with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating the organization’s core and leader behaviors.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in nursing is preferred.
  • Professional certification is preferred.
  • Experience working in an acute care setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area is preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience is preferred.
