Position Overview:
The Education Researcher will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of education for all students in Oklahoma by transforming the use of data and analytics. The successful candidate will lead efforts to utilize data and mixed-methods research to drive educational spending, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making within Oklahoma. The role will also play a key role in working with policymakers to inform policy decisions.
This position has the flexibility to work remote from anywhere in the United States. The preferred candidate would be based in Oklahoma and work in-person two days a week from our office in Oklahoma City.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy:
- Collaborate with OEQA leadership to design and carry out a scope of work that aligns with the agency’s mission and state policy priorities.
- Supervise, mentor, and support junior staff, providing feedback on their work.
- Oversee the design and execution of projects and program evaluations.
Research and Analysis:
- Design and implement robust studies using diverse methodologies such as statistical modeling, quasi-experimental designs, and qualitative research.
- Analyze both qualitative and quantitative data to uncover insights and inform policy decisions.
Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting:
- Collaborate closely with educational stakeholders to define data needs and deliver valuable insights.
- Translate complex data findings into clear, actionable insights for a non-technical audience.
- Prepare and present reports and presentations to the legislature, the Commission for Educational Quality and Accountability (CEQA), and other key stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- PhD, Ed.D. or master’s degree in education policy, economics, or related social science field
- At least 4 years of experience in educational policy and/or conducting education research
- Experience overseeing research studies that use a range of methodologies including implementation and evaluation studies that answer high-leverage questions for policymakers and educators.
- Experience developing partnerships with leaders in education research, policy, and practice.
- Strong technical skills with experience in at least one statistical software (e.g., R, Python, SAS) and data visualization tool (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Outstanding presentation and communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex data insights to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.
