Kamehameha Schools is currently looking for a Behavioral Health Specialist for our Preschools. This position supports our Oahu preschools, as well as some of our neighbor island preschools, so regular travel (on & off island) is required. While this position works and functions independently, teamwork and the ability to partner with others is key to success.

Masters degree in Social Work, Mental Health or closely related field that meets DCCA educational requirements for clinical licensure.
2-3+ years of experience providing behavioral health services to preschool aged children.
Experience with expressive arts/play therapy interventions preferred.
Valid State of HI clinical license (e.g. LMHC, LMFT or LCSW). If not currently licensed, we are willing to consider a candidate who has the ability to be licensed within 2 years (BHS I).
Valid Drivers License
Job Summary
Provides behavioral health services to students individually and in groups. Provides crisis intervention services following established protocols. Responsible for supporting overall well-being of student. Participates on Student Success Team with responsibility for coordinating development and implementation of student support plans for students identified as needing targeted or intensive supports. Responsible for communicating with families, including home visits, and helping coordinate receipt of off-campus extended professional services with supports at school. Provides trainings for staff and families on behavioral health related topics.
Essential Responsibilities
Assessment
Conducts assessment and provides behavioral health counseling services to students individually and in groups as appropriate. Develops behavioral health counseling goals, monitors progress, and makes referrals as warranted.
Monitors and assesses behavior, progress, accountability, health, and safety of students and coordinates with school counselor to address academic and educational supports.
Provides crisis intervention services following established protocols, which may occur after-hours. Serves as a designated liaison for reporting suspected child abuse or neglect.
Diagnosis and Treatment
Determines students’ condition(s) based on assessment/evaluation
Provide care within approved scope of services to students who are determined to require additional services.
Develop treatment plan tailored to the student’s needs and condition.
Identify and communicate with student/’ohana the need for student to receive external services May provide additional therapeutic modalities in which they are trained and as approved by leadership.
Communication and Support
Responsible for supporting overall well-being of students. Participates on Student Success Team with responsibility for coordinating development and implementation of student support plans for students identified as needing targeted or intensive supports.
Responsible for communicating with and supporting families as related to the well-being of the student, including home visits. Helps with the navigation and coordination of receipt of off-campus professional services. Works with off-campus professionals and students on support plans. Consults with administrators, teachers, and counselors as applicable to provide school-based supports to optimize student well-being.
Teaches classes to students and is a resource to employees on behavioral health related topics. Facilitates workshops for parents that enhance the social and emotional growth of students.
In addition to the Essential Responsibilities listed above, Behavioral Health Specialists assigned to the campus student residential community are also responsible for/to:
Provides 24-hour immediate crisis/emergency intervention services in situations that affect the safety and well-being of a boarding student.
Consults with dormitory advisors to provide school-based supports to optimize student well-being. Becomes integrated with the boarding community to support boarding students and the dorm advisors who care for them.
Recommends appropriate placement of boarding students to specific dorms to the Director of Boarding and consults periodically with boarding staff. Travels to the neighbor islands to conduct home visits.
Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for the requirements listed.
Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health, or closely related field that meets Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) educational requirements for clinical licensure in the State of Hawaii as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
Minimum of 3 years of related work experience
Current/valid clinical license in the State of Hawaii (e.g., LMHC, LMFT, or LCSW).
Valid Driver's License
Demonstrated ability to facilitate group counseling activities and teach classes on behavioral health topics.
Ability to provide high quality behavioral health counseling and to identify need for outside referral.
High degree of professionalism and genuine concern for the well-being of students.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; organized; good public speaking skills; strong listening skills; ability to relate well to a variety of people (e.g. faculty, staff, students, parents, administrators, external professional service providers).
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and Christian values.
Experience with counseling age appropriate children and working with families.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
Working Conditions (including Environmental Conditions)
This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives

Pay Range
$61,111.00 - $160,818.00 Annual
Compensation and Benefits
Please note that the pay range for education staff is determined by several factors, including the length of the work year required for the position (9.75 – 11.5 months), the highest degree/educational credentials earned from an accredited institution, and the number of verified years of full-time, eligible, and relevant work experience. For reference, the lowest end of the scale applies to individuals with a Bachelor’s degree and 0-1 years of verified, full-time, eligible work experience. Conversely, the highest end of the range would apply to an individual with a Ph.D. and 22 years of verified, full-time, eligible experience. The specific placement on the pay scale will be detailed in the employment offer.
