Requirements
  • A minimum of a two-year post-secondary diploma in Environmental Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of directly related experience in solid waste collection.
  • Current certification in Standard First Aid, CPR C, and AED.
  • Strong administrative skills to complete paperwork and computer work and ensure quality standards.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills to resolve issues effectively.
  • The ability to organize and prioritize projects and work assignments effectively.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • The ability to exercise discretion, judgment, and diplomacy.
  • The ability to schedule staff and distribute workload fairly and equitably.
  • Excellent time-management skills.
  • The ability to train new staff and monitor performance.
  • The ability and willingness to respond outside regular working hours on an on-call rotation.
  • A valid Class DZ driver's licence, eligibility for the Town's safe driver program criteria, and demonstrated experience operating vehicles over 11,000 kilograms gross vehicle weight.
  • Participation in the after-hours on-call rotation.
Responsibilities
  • Perform duties involved in the collection of curbside waste, organics, yard waste, and special collections.
  • Perform regular front-line curbside collection duties as required.
  • Provide guidance and direction to front-line staff, including training and performance monitoring.
  • Schedule and plan work.
  • Inspect and monitor applicable waste-services requirements, including safety compliance, customer-service delivery, and vehicle and equipment issues.
  • Prepare and complete required reports and paperwork.
  • Inspect work quality and ensure that all staff operate safely according to established Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Provide feedback to staff on job performance.
  • Support the Supervisor in resolving staff performance issues.
  • Monitor work activities and changing operational conditions; identify and respond to safety concerns, service disruptions, resource requirements, and emerging issues; and promptly document, communicate, and escalate significant, recurring, or unresolved operational concerns, including observed job-performance issues, to the Supervisor of Waste for timely follow-up.
  • Participate in the Working Foreperson after-hours on-call rotation, including winter snow and ice control operations.
