Who you are:

• You have 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2–3 years in a technical leadership role.
• You bring strong expertise in PHP/Laravel and React, with the ability to guide and evaluate full-stack contributions.
• You have proven experience leading engineering teams and delivering complex applications in production environments.
• You have a deep understanding of application security best practices and secure development lifecycles.
• You are highly skilled with relational databases (MySQL), including query optimization, indexing, and schema design.
• You’re familiar with ElasticSearch and MongoDB in production settings.
• You’ve led modernization and migration projects, ensuring stability and minimal disruption for end users.
• You have hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and cloud environments (AWS preferred).
• You’re excited about an AI-first approach, with demonstrated ability to integrate or leverage AI/ML to improve application performance and user outcomes.
• You bring excellent problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on technical execution.
• You’re a collaborative communicator who values mentoring, guiding, and empowering others.

What you’ll do:

• Lead and manage the backend (PHP/Laravel) and frontend (React) engineering teams, providing technical direction, mentorship, and support.
• Take end-to-end ownership of the platform’s technical direction, focusing on security, performance, and user experience.
• Champion an AI-first strategy, identifying opportunities to enhance automation, intelligent features, and predictive insights.
• Oversee the migration from V1 to V2, ensuring backward compatibility, stability, and a smooth user experience.
• Partner with product management to manage the backlog, prioritizing features, technical debt, and bug fixes.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, QA, DevOps, and leadership to deliver high-quality releases aligned with business goals.
• Drive the evolution of the platform’s architecture, including ElasticSearch, MongoDB, and MySQL components.
• Set and uphold standards for coding, CI/CD, deployment practices, and engineering excellence.
• Lead code reviews, technical discussions, and architectural planning.
• Champion a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and security-first development.

How you’ll contribute to the team:

We are seeking a seasoned Engineering Lead to take full technical ownership of the DonorSearch platform team. This leadership role will oversee both backend (PHP/Laravel) and frontend (React) teams, driving excellence in application performance, user experience, and security. The Engineering Lead will be responsible for guiding the ongoing migration from V1 to V2, managing backlog prioritization, and ensuring delivery of high-quality, secure, and scalable solutions.

This is a hands-on leadership position that requires strong technical expertise, the ability to manage and mentor a growing team, and an AI-first mentality—ensuring that artificial intelligence and machine learning opportunities are considered across the platform to improve efficiency, security, and the end-user experience.
