Requirements
  • The candidate must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • The candidate must hold current appropriate state licensure and meet practice requirements in every state in which they are employed.
  • The candidate must hold or successfully complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation Basic Life Support certification.
  • The candidate must have a minimum of nine months of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • The candidate must complete six months of acute dialysis experience to meet the stated Nurse in Charge supervision requirement.
  • The candidate must be able to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, assisting with ambulation, prolonged standing, bending, and occasional movement of machines or equipment weighing up to 200 pounds.
  • The candidate must be able to lift chemical and water solutions weighing up to 30 pounds as high as five feet.
  • The candidate must be able to work in an environment involving potential exposure to infectious and contagious diseases or materials.
  • The candidate must be able to travel to training and meeting sites and between assigned facilities.
  • The candidate must participate in on-call rotations and work nights, weekends, holidays, or other schedules determined by program needs.
Responsibilities
  • The nurse provides and coordinates clinically competent care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation, for an assigned group of patients.
  • The nurse delegates appropriate tasks to direct patient-care staff, including registered nurses, licensed vocational or licensed practical nurses, and patient-care technicians.
  • The nurse participates in decision-making, teaching, leadership functions, and quality-improvement activities that enhance patient outcomes and program operations.
  • The nurse performs ongoing systematic collection and analysis of patient data before, during, and after treatment, documents findings in the medical record, adjusts treatment plans as indicated, and notifies appropriate clinical personnel.
  • The nurse assesses, collaborates on, and documents patient and family learning needs and provides initial and ongoing education.
  • The nurse recognizes abnormal aspects and implications of patient status and reports or collaborates with appropriate health-team members.
  • The nurse directs and provides safe, effective patient care for assigned patients according to prescribed modality-specific treatment procedures.
  • The nurse assesses daily assigned patient-care needs and collaborates with direct and ancillary patient-care staff.
  • The nurse initiates and coordinates communication with dialysis providers and contracted facility personnel to provide continuity of patient care.
  • The nurse implements, administers, monitors, and documents patient responses to prescribed intradialytic transfusions and reports adverse reactions appropriately.
  • The nurse administers prescribed medications and documents medical justification and effectiveness.
  • The nurse initiates and assists with emergency-response measures.
  • The nurse serves as a resource for the health-care team and participates in staff training and orientation of new staff as assigned.
  • The nurse may provide specialized nursing-care instruction to hospital or facility staff as contractually stipulated.
  • The nurse may assist in an outpatient facility as needed.
  • The nurse completes Clinical Advancement Program requirements to advance.
  • The nurse performs other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Desired Qualifications
  • Twelve months of experience as a Registered Nurse is preferred.
  • Six months of acute dialysis experience is preferred.
  • Hemodialysis and/or intensive care unit experience is preferred.
