Underwriting a whole new economy doesn’t happen overnight. Creators are businesses where content generates revenue, a powerful business engine that has fueled the meteoric rise of creators over the past decade. When we pull this engine apart, we can examine a host of non-traditional features like social stats, cash flow, and expenses to better understand and assess the creditworthiness of this new class of small businesses.

As the Head of Risk at Karat, you will be responsible for developing our credit models, improving customer servicing strategies, and protecting Karat from credit risks as we scale our offering. Ideally, we’re looking for someone who has the willingness to demonstrate growth and be a scrappy individual contributor for the first few months of starting before building and leading a team.

What you’ll do:

• P&L: Responsible for credit and fraud risk on our P&L
• Underwriting: Build and tune an underwriting model tailored to creators, improving our loss rate while maintaining our growth
• Tooling: Stand up underwriting and fraud monitoring tooling from scratch
• Fraud: Develop a fraud policy, building some monitoring internally and/or using 3rd party services
• Leadership: Individual Contributor responsibilities for the first 3-6 months of starting before building and leading a team
• Collaboration: Share insights and work cross-functionally with ops, product, sales/marketing to ensure risk updates don’t adversely impact product, growth, service

What you’ll need:

• 5+ years of experience in charge card/credit risk
• Data fluency—you’re a SQL wizard and dangerous in Excel
• Experience with asset-based underwriting
• Knowledge with underwriting toolings (modeling with R or Google Cloud, building rules engines with GDS Link or similar)

Nice to have:

• Ability to interface with bank and debt partners on guiding portfolio performance projections
• Experience with Machine Learning and Python DS stack (Pandas, Scikit, etc.)
• Fintech start up experience

The salary range for this role is between $150,000-$250,000 base.
